“Didn't plan to stay here....”

I had booked my room at the Howard Johnson, back in September....however, after my 8 hour drive to the hotel, we get there and there is a sign stating they were closed and I had to stay at the Quality Inn. SIGH! SO, we drive over to this hotel we knew nothing of. Get there, get inside and the rude woman at the front desk had no explanation of why NO ONE called me to tell me that my hotel had closed and that we had been moved. They didn't even have my name and reservation in the computer!! GRRR!!! The parking there is awful. We were in the first building that has a whole maybe 5 parking spaces...so we had to park clear down in the other lot and lug our luggage to the room. We finally get to the room, which has outdated decor and the WORST shower I have been in....the water wouldn't stay warm and cobwebs were all in the shower. Sigh.... I will say that the beds and pillows were super comfortable though. They do have breakfast in the AM- we had pancakes, donuts, eggs, biscuits/gravy, yogurt. The breakfast was okay- Howard Johnsons was much better...but oh yeah, I couldn't stay there.....

“Great Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

We stayed using three Choice Hotel's reward nights. I was very happy with the room. It was a non-smoking, King. Unlike many hotels, it actually smelled like a non-smoking room, a very big plus. The room was spacious and clean and the heater worked great.

The indoor pool was a little old, but my daughter loved swimming there.

We had the best breakfast at the hotel. The first two mornings, the cook made my daughter Mickey Mouse pancakes he delivered to the table. The third morning, the pancakes were on the buffet line. I was pleased with the quality of breakfast items. The breakfast room was big, there were more than enough tables, something that is lacking at many hotels. All three days, the cooks were very friendly, always helpful. The first two days, he made some awesome cookies.

It was surrounded by some nice restaurants within walking distance. When we checked in, we were given a complementary appetizer for Landry's next door (great seafood restaurant!).

“Good motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Very clean and accomodating. Tv was old and tube type that had to warm up but we don't stay in the room when we are in Branson so it didn't matter much. We had heating units that were a bit difficult to regulate. We will stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the bottom level and know that you will have to walk a hill to get to the breakfas...

“Take the good with the bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

Was fairly expensive for the type of hotel it is. Holiday rates seemed double what it is worth. Bed was nice but bathroom was old, dingy and we had to step up into the room. We had a non-smoking room but had to walk past other guests who were smoking outside their rooms. We ended up walking through a wall of smoke in order to get to our room. No other entrance or we would have done that. Window coverings don't quite do the trick and we had bright lights in our room 24/7, along with a light under the bathroom step that was on the whole time. We ended up with a room that had a jetted tub next to the bed. The jets were very weak and it was basically just a large bathtub. Some guests had dogs and we could hear them barking early in the morning. Not the way I want to wake up when on holiday. The breakfast is really good, however, I was unhappy that one of the staff continued to whistle the whole time. Some may like whistling, but I wear hearing aids and found if very annoying. We dealt with this each day we ate there. On the plus side, the location is great and you can walk to many of the popular places even in the winter.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I made reservations a month ahead of time and the desk clerk had me totally sold on this motel. When I arrived, the desk clerk was more interested in getting the Christmas tree up then helping me.
I was promised a downstairs room near the indoor heated pool. We were given a 3rd floor room in the second building (there are 3 buildings). When I asked what happened to my 1st floor room near the pool, I was told that was all that was available.
I have a fear of heights and when I got off the elevator, I thought I was going to have to crawl to the room. It's high and looking out on hills and my stomache was flipping. Mad doesn't even begin to describe myself! On top of that, you could hear the people above us tromp all night.
The room was ok. Overall clean, but some mold in the bathroom. The bed was ok but nothing special. The swimming pool was in the building across the parking lot. It was too cold to run across the parking lot to get there let alone run back to your room wet in 50 degree weather, so we didn't even get to use it.
They did have a really good breakfast with eggs, biscuits n'gravy, cereals, pastries, juices, milk, coffee, etc.
Although this motel is in a good area with-in walking distance from gift shops, shows and restaurants, I was disappointed with the accomodations and don't plan on staying there next year.
