UNFAVORABLE: Rule #1 of lodging industry is that the guest must be able to sleep!
Apparently, the person handling the night clerk duties that night was a new trainee who they had not adequately trained. Around 11pm to take a break from driving, I checked in here, paid, and filled out the paperwork as requested. I happened to notice a number of signs posted with stern warnings that if anyone created a disturbance then the police would be called. This was to turn out to be ironic. I then got my family settled in for the night. We finally got to sleep. Then around 2am in the morning, the phone in the unit rings loudly waking up my entire family. I pick up the phone and the night clerk tells me that I forgot to sign the required spots on the contract. Oops, I thought, sorry about that! So I get dressed, and go to the night desk. I ask where is the spot where I forgot to sign. The clerk points to some spots on the form. Hmm.... there were no hand-written X's next to those spots on the contract. I had to explain to this new trainee that at every hotel I'd travelled to around the world, universal practice is that when you want a customer to sign somewhere on a contract, you either point to that spot or else hand-write an X, or in some other way bring the guest's attention to it, because there are often spots for a signature which don't get used in every case, because the pre-printed contract must be able to allow for different situations. This clerk had done none of those things. Then, to cover up for her own mistake, she decided to wake me up at 2am rather than have to answer to her boss for an incompletely filled form. I don't know why she couldn't have caught the error when I handed the contract back to her at 11pm, or even called my room at 11:30pm. If she didn't notice it was incompletely filled out at 11pm, how am I supposed to know? The clerk was not busy at all at that time of the night, just gabbing on the phone or watching TV. Nevermind the fact that once I've paid and got my key and signed the other portions of the contract as specified, and settled into the room, there is already a legally-binding contract in effect, and any other signatures are simply moot. Ironically, the motel warns they will call the police if guests disturb the peace (but not if staff cause the disturbance).
