“Convenient location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

Good hotel for the person on a budget. Hotel staff was very friendly & accommodating, rooms were clean, and it was in a very good location, just off Interstate 55. Only 10 minutes from downtown Memphis and 20 minutes from the Tunica casinos. Hotel is directly across from Southern Thunder Harley Davidson and Desoto Civic Center. There are several places nearby to eat, all within walking distance: Waffle House, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway and The Boiling Pot, seafood restaurant/bar & grill. There is a LARGE shopping/dining area one exit away (2 miles north).

“Not good. Not bad.”

Magnolia Inn & Suites was not a good stay. It was not a bad stay. Very average...but you get what you pay for.

The bed was VERY springy. Very springy. I could feel the springs poking through the fabric and it was a very loud bed. Any movement I made resulted in springs making a "boing" sound.

The shower was also very difficult to use. The only shower head was the kind you hold in your hand, and there was no place to mount it on the wall, making it very difficult for someone who doesn't usually bathe that way. The towels were stained as well.

The room had a musty smell when we first got inside, but that seemed to get better after we ran the fan on the A/C unit.

To top it off, the manager at checkout told me that if I gave them a five-star review on various websites, that he would mail me a $20 gas card. That's bribery (and I have no idea how he'd know who left the review).

The room had a small microwave and refrigerator (though the fridge was extremely dented, probably from the housekeeping cart). The room had full cable and the TV had an FM radio built in, but the remote control didn't work well. The hotel said they offered WiFi, but all of the available networks required a password. I didn't feel like bothering the front desk to find it out, so I just lived without the web.

On the good side, it was in a very convenient location, just off Interstate 55. 10 minutes from downtown Memphis and 20 minutes from the Tunica casinos. Hotel is directly across from the Desoto Civic Center. There is a Waffle House, McDonald's, and Taco Bell within walking distance. There is a large shopping/dining area one exit away (2 miles north).

The hotel is very small, and the service staff was friendly. The room is small, but the bathroom is spacious. They offered a continental breakfast, but I did not try it.

I probably wouldn't recommend this motel, but it's not an "avoid at all costs" spot. There are many more attractive options in the nearby area, however. Magnolia offered a decent price on a Saturday night, so if you're cost-conscious, just looking for a place to crash, and don't mind quality taking a back seat, then Magnolia is adequate.

  • Liked — Convenience, Price

“Never again”

The office booked our rooms here. Told us it was a great place. Maybe it is for them. At $55 a night and they don't have to stay there.

The place really isn't that bad, especially for $55 a night. But if you are used to The Hampton or The Fairfield or any similar property, you won't be happy.

The place wreaks of an Indian restaurant, although my room smelled like Febreeze or fabric softener. The bathroom had something sprayed or spewed all over the wall under the vanity counter. Couldn't see it until you sat down. Several stains in the carpet of my room. I hope it wasn't blood. I'm pretty sure that is a bullet hole. Holes burned in the comforter, in my non-smoking room.

I would be willing to stay there again, if I were in a bind. However, I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone else.

“Horrible Place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2007

I thought I would treat my wife to a special place that I found on the internet without reading any prior reviews did I get disappointed. I found the place and they had a "so-called" sweet. It was called the "Heart to Heart" theme. It had a cheesy hot tub (just a heart shaped bathtub with two dinky jets and the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE bed we ever slept on......and it was in a heart shape. I only blame myself because when I called them to get a reservation (Young family runs it) they warned me that the reservation cannot be cancelled. I am sure they do this so when you see your room, you cannot leave if it really is bad like most reputable motells. I could not get my wireless internet to work and the guy there did try and try and said that it must be my computer because he could get it. Well, I have went to over 200 hotel/motels with wireless and never had a problem. He brought me a 6 ft cord to hook directly into the wall but that left me in a corner sitting on the floor with no room for a chair. I tried and tried to get out of it but he said he could not cancel my reservation. I asked him what if he could rent it out again and he said yes, maybe if he could. I did not believe him and we spent miserable and uncomfortable night in that crappy room that cost us 145 dollars. They also were allowing huge dogs in the rooms as I saw two of them going down the hall. I went to their "so called " continental breakfast in the morning and that was even a bigger joke. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE
