I travel to Jackson monthly for business, and this was my company's hotel of choice. On 3 occasions, the service was friendly and quick. Being a Residence, the staff treated me like family. Breakfast far better than your average AM free buffet. On all 3 trips, the rooms were nice and clean, but the noise from the air conditioner was so loud, that I got little sleep, and I can usually sleep through a hurricane.
On my 4th visit, I arrived late (as usual). I had long-standing reservations, had notified of late arrival, and am Marriott Platinum. When I arrived at midnight, there was a very irate man in front of me yelling at the clerk that he is Marriott Gold and should be able to get a room at any Marriott. I backed away to give them their privacy. When he walked away, it was with a key.
When I walked up to the desk, imagine my surprise when I was told that because of a heat failure, my room was unavailable, and that they would be happy to let me go to another (non-Marriott property, and as good will gesture, would still give me my points!!!!!! I was livid, as they had clearly given the man my room. I told the clerk that due to the noise I never used the heat or a/c anyway (and it was 55 degrees, so I would have survived). She told me that they could not do that, but the other property (which was owned by the same proprietor, and was more like a Super 8) was a short walk away. A SHORT WALK. It was midnight, and I was a woman alone with a suitcase and laptop bag.
I quickly called the Hilton about a quarter mile away. They came and picked me up and gave me a suite. I have not stayed at this hotel since.
