“Location is not worth it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2011

Check in took about 1hr and had a reservation (one person working on Sunday night with a show at the fairgrounds). Room was gross. Clock was sticky, slight gap between matress & boxspring had a high collection of dirt and dust. Only had 2 towels total for a 2 queen bed room?!? Breakfast area had pictures of fresh fruit, but they did not have any fruit? Had to ask front desk for waffle mix, which was watered down to make waffles unedible. They don't put out any food, obviously trying to save money by not providing the free breakfast! Not even close to a standard Choice Hotels breakfast, so adjust this out of your cost equation. The gym is a couple of old machines in an unused room (and no heat). Not a safe place to workout as doors are outside. Internet was at best intermittent - good thing I didn't need it for work and had my iPhone. Place is just awful. We had a group/event discount of $59/day, and it was not worth it. Couldn't imagine paying full price.

“Awful. Do Not Stay Here.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

We booked two rooms at this hotel over a month ago through choice hotels because we were to attend an event at the fairgrounds next door. We arrived and were told our rooms weren't ready because they were waiting on housekeeping. We went out for a while, came back when told and were told again that we were still waiting on our room to be ready. We were assured that our rooms were available and a room number had already been assigned to us to come back again later. We did, still not ready. Our kids had no nap, we were unable to change our clothes after driving all day and it was time for our event. Called Choice Hotels and were assured that our room would be held until 7 am the next morning.

Went to our event, came back a few hours later, hungry, tired and with cranky kids only to be told they did not have a room for us, even though we had a month old reservation, a confirmation number and we had spoken with the desk staff 3 times already who assured us they had our room.

They tried to send us to another hotel (NOT a Choice Hotel) at the same rate. We said no, then they sent us there for free. When we finally found the place another 7 miles away it was a complete DUMP. Turns out the same lady works at (and probably owns) both and was trying to get us to pay to go to her other crummy hotel. We stayed there because we were so exhausted. It was awful. Never stay here or at the American Inn (renaming it Jackson Inn). Rude desk staff who lie. Choice Hotels should be ashamed of this place and leery of its owners.

“Good Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

This hotel provided the accomodations needed for my son and me. We were attending the MS Wildlife Extravaganza and could walk from the hotel to the event.

My son loved fixing his own waffles for breakfast. It was a real treat for him!

All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

“HORRIBLE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! The only clean spot on the entire property was the lobby. The bed looked as though it was only made up not changed - dried blood was on the sheets. The sofa bed looked like someone had just finished doing their business on it. -- HORIBBLE - JUST HORRIBLE.
We left immediately and went next door to the Hampton - the pictures evidently are from another Quality Inn & Suites and not from the one on Greymont.

“Ya get whatcha pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

Our family of 6 (2 adults, 2 teens and 2 elementary schoolers) were driving from Texas to Florida and needed a place for all of us to stay in Jackson, MS. The Quality Inn and Suites in downtown Jackson seemed like a great deal...only $80 for 2 queen beds and a pullout sofa, plus bkfst seemed like a steal. It was easy to find, right off I 55, and not far from I 20 so it seemed great. When we pulled in though, it seemed like not a great neighborhood and the hotel seemed old and rundown. Definitely NOT nearly like the other Quality Inn and Suites we've stayed in before. The first thing we noticed is that the rooms open to the OUTside, instead of nice carpeted and safer hallways. I was not happy about that. The gal at the front desk told me it was 35 years old and I thought, "Bummer". The room was much bigger than I'd expected...one full room with a couch and TV and kitchenette, then another attached full room with two Queen beds and a bathroom. Wow! That was a nice surprise. It did look old for sure, but I thought it was apparent that they make an effort to keep it up. Since two of my kids wanted to sleep on the Coleman air mattresses we brought along, I asked for extra sheets and blankets. When I called the front desk, the gal was unsure if they could give me any. Huh? Also, she could not send any up; I had to go get them myself. She came up with a couple sheets, but no blankets. I thought it was bad that they have NO extra blankets in the entire place. We survived the night, tho. The hairdryer did not work, but we had brought our own. I noticed there were washers and dryers in the bottom level hallway outside right by the parking lot, but one of the washers had an 'Out of Order' sign on it. The elevator worked, but was not nice. There were cracks in the inner decorative walls, and some of the paneling was glued back on. Ick.
Bkfst the next morning was really bad, however. The only gal working at the front desk was also in charge of the bkfst. That is a disaster! On the menu was bagels, muffins and toast, 3 basic cereals, a waffle maker and some biscuits and gravy from a crockpot. No eggs, which was disappointing to my hungry, protein lovin teen boys. The waffle making idea was a good idea, but wasn't so great. They were out of batter after I made one waffle for my family, and I asked the front desk lady to get some more. It took her a long time to get it made...maybe 5 min? There was a small pitcher of syrup, and I tried pouring some in a cup so we could just have some at the table. I soon learned that their little pitcher had a broken handle and I had to rig it up with both hands to get some out. What a mess all over my hands! As soon as the lady came back with the batter, I had to tell her they were out of milk and syrup. Then the OJ was super thick and we didn't drink that, although I didn't mention that to the overworked lady. I felt badly for her! The hotel was very busy and it was ridiculous for one person to both watch the desk and do everything for bkfst, too. The floor had spills on it, but she had no time to think of that. There were several small tables there, and some couches too. One of the upholstered chairs in the couch area was so completely broken and looked like it was really falling over. Not sure what had happened with that, but it looked horrible. I didn't notice there was no Air Conditioning in there, but my husband said he was sweating and there was obviously no A/C.
Driving away, we definitely thought it was sub-par in many areas, but since we had only paid about half of what we often are used to paying for a nicer TownPlaceSuites or a Residence Inn, we thought that was just about right. We got a big room, which was a bonus, but everything else was about half the quality and service. I would only stay there again in a bind. If you're just looking for a basic hotel to stay in, and you don't care about any froo froo stuff, then stay here. Good price for sure and big rooms. If ambiance is important to you, then go elsewhere. Hope this helps somebody! We have used Tripadvisor several times this summer and we deeply appreciate people's honest evaluations, which is why I'm taking the time to write this out while my husband is unpacking our suitcases! :-)
