If you believe cleanliness is next to godliness, then I would suggest that the room I stayed in at the Ramada Inn Southwest Conference Center is hell. I stayed at twelve (12) three diamond (AAA) hotels on my vacation during the summer of 2004, and this was by far THE WORST hotel I visited. After a long day of driving from Little Rock, with stops in Vicksburg (where I twisted my ankle) and Natchez, my family and I were looking forward to getting to our hotel and relaxing.
To our surprise, there were absolutely no cars parked in the parking lot, which seemed strange for a Sunday night at any hotel. I entered the nice modern looking reception area and enquired at the front desk as to the reason for lack of business. The person explained that the whole hotel had been booked for two family reunions, but they left a day early. My family and I pretty much had the whole place to ourselves, which we thought was a good thing, that is of course, until we opened the door to our room….
The two-bed, non-smoking room was located on the ground floor near the back of the property (Room 1038). The room included a table, two chairs, a TV with remote (that did not work), a broken lamp, a microwave, a small fridge, as well as an iron and ironing board. The security latch on the door was also broken, so we propped a chain under the doorknob for extra security.
The bathroom smelled funny and was absolutely filthy, with a heavily stained bathtub, a dusty bathroom fan (which did not work), a dirty shower curtain, and sticky floors. I dared to have a shower, but the rest of my family refused.
I should have complained even before we had moved in our luggage, but I was not in the best of moods and just wanted to get some rest.
In the morning, I did put in a complaint with the manager, including giving them a Washington Red Delicious label that I found on the underside of one of the bedspreads. They filed my comments and gave a $10.00 discount, which dropped the AAA Rate for three adults to $34.56 including tax.
If you do plan to stay in the Jackson area, I would strongly suggest staying elsewhere. For a three diamond AAA property, it certainly fell miles short of expectations. While the reception area and front desk looked very well maintained, the rooms (at least the one I stayed in) were not. We felt very uncomfortable staying there, and that is no reward for having a cheap price. Caveat Emptor….Let The Buyer Beware!
