“Close to Camp Shelby South Gate”

Dru's is located a couple of minutes from Camp Shelby's south gate. This is a very "mom and pop" inn. Clean and maintained - but it isn't the Hilton. Everyone was very nice and I was comfortable there traveling alone. If you are visiting someone that is deploying or coming home, do not hesitate to stay here. This is the closest location to them.

Rooms are all the same. Two queen beds, larger mini fridge and a microwave. Housekeeping was VERY NICE and will do their best to accomodate you. Dru's has wireless internet and I had no problems with it. I used it everyday with absolutely no issues. There wasn't a coffee maker in the room but they do offer free coffee and rolls in the office every morning.

If you are staying for an extended period, they do have laundry facilities on site.

There is an Exxon with a mini mart within walking distance. Some fast food and a couple of small restaurants are also located in the same general area. Note that Dru's Inn is located right off of 49 so do use caution when walking. I was there during a "leave" week so there was a LOT of traffic. Be careful and hold on to kids.

Dru's is located about 10 - 15 minutes from Hattiesburg - you will need a car. If you are flying in, consider flying into New Orleans (about 2 hours away - very easy drive) or Gulf Port (about an hour drive). It was a little expensive for me to fly directly into Hattiesburg. The other airport locations were much cheaper, even when I factored in the price of a car rental.

“Been There, Done That, & I WILL Be Going Back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2009

This place is as close to the base as you can get. There are stores close by too. The room I stayed in was clean and the staff was nice. I went there to see my boyfriend. I didn't know that there was a place so close to the base. We were both happy that I could be so close to him after not seeing him for a while. The only thing that I did not like was there was not an iron in the room. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay at Dru's Inn and I will be going back as soon as possible.

“Close to my Loved one”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2008

It is as close to the base as anyone can get - that is the only real important thing that mattered on my visit. Room was ok, amenities were ok, had been staying down the street at another locally owned establishment, was not good and very far away. If you are going for a luxury stay and don't need to be close to the base - go elsewhere -BUT - if you have a soldier that you are waiting to say goodbye to or hello to - every minute counts - so this place is perfect in my book. No problems with room, staff, front desk, checkout - it's just a cheap hotel room - but worth it to be close to Camp Shelby South Gate, enough said.

“pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2008

We stayed there for 3 nights and we enjoyed it very much. It was convient to the base where my husband was and the whole time we were there the staff was very friendly and went out of there way to make sure we had everything we needed. The only down side we didn't like was the size of the bathroom, it could had been bigger. The friendliness and attitude was great from the staff. When my husband comes back to the states and he is station at Camp Shelby again I will be staying there again. I couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay when I just need a place just to rest when I am off base.

“Close to Camp Shelby”

It was perfect because its by the South Gate at Camp Shelby. I'm a military wife.. so that's a good thing to be close to the camp. Other than that, everything sucked. The rooms smelled bad and weren't clean... and I didn't feel safe there when I had to stay there alone. I am planning on staying there again in January when my husband comes back from Iraq though, only because it's so close to Camp Shelby and it's cheap.
