This was the nastiest hotel I've ever stayed in. It started well before we got there, and I should have trusted my instincts. But it was for one night, and I decided to save some money and stay here instead of the Wingate or Holiday Inn. Huge mistake.
I called a few days before and asked for the procedure to check to see if early check in was available. The lady that answered the phone said "Call back that morning" and hung up. I called that morning at 9am and got the same woman on the phone who didn't even ask for my room number or name or reservation, she just said "You can't come before 1." Well, we got to town early and so I decided to go over there anyway at 11 am, since I had tons of time to kill. Turns out we could check in early, it was no problem. She told us though that we had to put out the do not disturb sign to keep the manager from "counting" our room, since it was early. We took our things to our room, and I wound up back at the front desk wanting another room. There were lots of problems (bugs squished on the walls, carpet folded on itself in the room, and the beds had the tiniest, not white pillows you've ever seen, and the microwave and fridge were disgusting), but the biggie was the smoke detector hanging off the wall (see all the photos I'm uploading, you'll be shocked). I was told "It works fine", and then she turned her back to me. No effort to resolve my issues at all. I checked and they had already dinged my credit card for the hold, and by now I had to get going to my next event. Later that evening when I came back to the hotel I went back to the lobby to see about switching to a better room, and the same nasty woman from before was still working, and when I walked into the lobby she was sitting in the lounge area watching TV with another young woman sleeping on the couch. I was shocked, and the look she gave me for interrupting her TV was enough to send me back to my room. I just went to bed, eager to leave in the morning.
The next morning I went down to check out the breakfast situation, mostly to see if we were going to need to eat on the road. The selection was very bare bones, but the big thing that surprised me was the lady working today was so incredibly nice! Much different than the lady working yesterday. She even complained about that other lady, when discussing whether or not the coffee was fresh.
Thankfully it was a short stay, and after this, I'll never stay in a Days Inn again.
