“Brookhaven Days Inn: Take two.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

This is my second review for this hotel. I stayed here one year ago and wasn't thrilled with the room, but it was a decent room for a tight budget.. This year I booked another hotel in the area and it bombed, literally, it was a dump. So I drove on down to this hotel to see if anything had changed in the last year and I ended up booking a room.

It looks like they've done a lot of sprucing up on the outside. The room is much nicer. The fridge is new, the rooms and bathrooms are spotless. Although the decor seems to be somewhat dated, it all matches, and it's all in very good condition. The furniture looks to be fairly new and there are lots of new fixtures.

One thing, if you don't smoke and there are no non-smoking rooms available- go elsewhere. The smoking rooms will choke a non-smoker out.

“You get what you pay for.”

We stopped in Brookhaven on our way to another destination. I had researched hotels beforehand because we planned to stay a few nights in order to see some nearby family also.

I decided on the Days Inn. I made an online reservation....$63.00....which is a great price for a king room with cable TV, good size fridge (not the little square jobs), and a microwave.

A few things: 1. The hotel is located back behind a few buildings and is kind of “hidden.” We arrived at night in a town we had never been to, their small sign was out, and trying to find it was quite a task. Brookhaven doesn’t label anything with street signs, apparently and someone hadn’t bothered to light up the Days Inn sign... it was lit up the following night though. 2.) I seen two black bugs ( NOT roaches..maybe crickets) dead in the corner of the hotel room. Yuck. 3.) Some things have been renovated, some haven’t. The fridge was rickety, but did the job. The shower head was so low that my 5 foot 7 inch frame had to bend my head over to wash my hair. My 6 foot husband had to duck. 4.) The vent in the bathroom was covered with dirt and dust. 5.) There was beer in the fridge, and it wasn't mine. 6.) A few pubic hairs grossed me out.

It wasn't horrible, and I would stay there again if we were on a tight budget, but I think I would have rather spent the extra $20 per night to get a cleaner room in town. Finding multiple small things neglected makes me wonder what things are neglected that I DON'T see.

“Warm Hospitality”

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Days Inn in Brookhaven, MS. The hotel was very clean and the room was really nice. We had a comfortable king size bed with a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. The hotel even had wireless high speed internet . The breakfast was well maintained and fresh. They also had free USA Today newspapers to read.

The hotel staff was friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. They truly wanted us to have a good time in Brookhaven. We would definitely stay at this hotel again if in the area.

“Roach Motel”

Entered the room and notice that it smelled and was hot, we cranked up the air conditioning and left for a couple of hours. When we returned the room was still hot and the toilet rocked, the drawer on the dresser was falling apart. Went to the front desk and requested another room and was given one.
We changed rooms... air conditioning worked fine. We showered and went to bed. Since everyone went to the use the restroom in the first room, it was during the night when we discovered the first problem. The toilet seat was hanging on with only 1 screw upon further investigation the seat looked as if it was older than dirt, it was discolored and the plastic spacers were all crushed and broken.
Upon rising for the morning, I ran my hand across a nasty feeling stain. It looked like someone had spilled milk or ice cream on the blanket. I don't even want to think of what else it could have been. The room could have been cleaned a little better. Notice alot of places with dust and dirt build up, insect wings in the sink area.
I requested a discount immediately upon checking out and begin to tell the management of the problems and he apologized and told me that it would be checked out. As he handed me the ticket to sign I asked where was my discount and he asked me how much I was willing to pay... I said $50 bucks out of the $65 I was being charged. He told me,"You wouldn't get that rate in New York City."
Since it was Sunday and I was on my way to church, I left politely. I will be contacting the main office of Days Inn and if possible voice a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

“What the [--]?”

1. Toilet rocked when you sat down on it. Bathroom was scary nasty.
2. Cigarette burn holes in bedspreads.
3. Non-smoking room smelled like smoke and mildew.
4. Drawers broken off fronts of dressers.
It was worth 20 more bucks to stay at the Hampton a block away. Our original stay was booked for 2 nights. We only lasted one night and I didn't sleep most of that night. I would not patronize this hotel again. It was nasty and very unpleasant. I stayed here 2 years ago and it was a decent enough place. Not anymore.
