We (a senior couple) stayed there in Nov 2011 for 7 nights visiting Winona relatives. The hotel was nowhere full.
Upon checking in, the desk person advised us that she had upgraded us to a two queen suite -- our reservation had been made directly with the facility on-line. The second floor suite was located in a a forward extended portion of the property, which allows them to add a sitting room containing a pullout sofa bed and a second large screen tv (A third and smaller tv was in the bathroom which only can be viewed from the vanity area.) The two sliding door closet was ample, but 6 hangers for 8' or so wide were inadequate -- housekeeping came up with a few more. Drawer space was sufficient.
All the facilities in the bathroom were in first class shape. There were no eroding tiles or signs of patchwork in the suite. Warm water came quickly and steadily. The suite was very clean.
The room itself was very quiet. The four pillows per bed are too large -- why don't hotels offer a choice of varying size and softness rather than have all of the same size and firmness? The housekeeping attendant we met the second day refrained from the tight hotel pack of the bed coverings at our request -- a much more comfortable feel for us. We were there in November and the thermostatically controlled quiet heating system was very reliable, honoring our downward adjustment at bedtime.
Parking space was ample. Complimentary USA Today delivered each day. A nice sitting area is across from the lobby along with a small business center including a computer.
The flat screen tv's do not receive a HD signal from the cable installation. We didn't look for the pool.
The built-in Green Mill restaurant is good and above the general standards of Winona, a blue collar town. We received minor discount coupons for one dinner and for each breakfast. I enjoyed a "petite sirloin" one night which was correctly prepared. On another occasion enjoyed a good pasta meal. Not a gourmet eating establishment, but a reliable source of a comfortable meal.
The wi-fi faded the first night. No problem for the rest of our visit after I mentioned the matter to the front desk the next morning.
All in all we enjoyed our visit and would not hesitate to return. Some years ago we stayed at the badly aged chain hotel just across the highway and had no problem trying a different facility on this trip.
