We had planned just a one night getaway to Winona, and this was one of three hotels (other choices looked worse) with a room left to reserve, so we did. Spent the day wandering our way to Winona (beautiful town/area) and attempted to check in at 6pm. Noticed a huge tarp covering part of the roof...first clue. Halls were dirty, moldy smelling, just bad. Checked in, walked to our room and the door was unlocked...walked in and both beds were stripped with the laundry in a pile on the floor (still at 6pm). Went back to the front desk and she switched rooms for us. Went to the new room, and it was horribly disgusting. I didn't even want to walk on the carpet in my shoes it was so dirty and stained. The walls were even gross, all kinds of black handprints, markings, smears, etc.. Stains on the unwashed bedspreads that you didn't even want to think about. There was no cover for the wall thermometer, just hanging wires on the wall. Front desk girl was apologetic, but we checked back out and, because of happenings in the area, EVERY other hotel was booked and we ended up driving the 180 miles back home the same night. Very disappointing. If they demolished this building and rebuilt on the same spot, it could be good. This should be called the NO Quality Inn. Sleep in your vehicle instead of here...seriously!
