The basics, bed and bedding, were not impressive. Lumpy mattress and lumpy big pillows made for an uncomfortable couple of nights. There is a Green Mill Pizza right across the way in the other hotel, and a Target just a couple blocks away.

The girls at the front desk really made this a good hotel to stay in. They were very warm and helpful in our looking for attractions on Saturday morning while waiting for my nephew's 4 PM wedding. The rooms are large, which we really liked. We stayed for two nights. The first morning, I went down and had a pancake, a banana and orange juice. The OJ was really bitter. My husband passed and walked to McDonald's. The second morning, I had the scrambled eggs ( they're not real!) a piece of toast and apple juice. My husband passed on it and again walked to McDonald's. Nice location as it was across the parking lot from a Green Mill (perfect for a nightcap) and close to Target and Walmart if you forgot earrings, makeup brushes, or just want pop to put in the refrigerator.
We will stay here again if another event comes up in their lives.

The Holiday Inn Express in Winona is a fine hotel for a brief stay. We requested early check-in so we could get dressed for a wedding, and the staff kindly obliged.

The room was fine, though it was rather stale smelling and stuffy. Apparently the AC does not work if the outdoor temperature reaches 65 or so degrees. As a result, it was difficult to control the humidity and temperature in the room.

The pillows on the bed were nicely labeled firm and soft; however, they were simply lumpy.

The location of the hotel is very good, close to the highway (without being loud), and nearby a few restaurants and retailers like Target.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel for a one or two night stay.

I echo many of the other comments here. What differentiates this HI Express from others is the service. The team has gone out of there way to accomodate special requests, ie rooms, late checkout etc., and being a newer hotel, too helps. There is a decent full service restaurant and bar right next door (Green Mill), and for walkers and runners, the Lake Winona trail (6 miles) can not be beat!
