Charming and homey hotel, friendly service (a little spotty at times), generous and quite tasty brunch. Room was comfortable - no complaints. The hotel is known for its "cat rental" service - guests can borrow a kitty for their stay. If you're very allergic like us, however, don't worry - they'll give you a cat-free room - didn't react at all. Wabasha is a nice town - check out the National Eagle Center, go to Lark Toys (south of town), and go to Nosh for dinner.

Management was rude and was incapable of handling and resolving customer complaints. Lacked overnight service and didn't seem to care about customer satisfaction at all. Dissappointing considering its character and appeal. Could be a very nice hotel with a chnage in business ethic.

A taste Mexico in Minnesota? I didn't think it was possible, but the small town of Wabasha offers a complete Mexican get away in the upper midwest. This resort town could be considered the Cozumel or Ixatapa of the Midwest. The Anderson House, the oldest operating hotel in Minnesota, has the elegance of the quaintest Mexican inn. The decor and ambiance is old world Mexico and you will want to go out on the veranda for a long siesta. Burros are provided to guide you through the city, where you can view the charms of the adobe houses, the mission style churches, the stables and merchants of the town square, complete with a local constable's office and bell tower.

For dining selection, you can't go wrong with the restaraunt located in the hotel, or the host of other authentic Mexican restaraunts located in the town square. Our favorite was La Conexion...exquisite cuisine and reasonable prices. After your meal you can enjoy the rest of the evening in the bar, playing Loteria, Mexican Train Dominoes, checkers and chess "Mexican Style". The spirits and brews are all imported from Mexico and if you are a connoisseur of cigars, the bar has a complete stock of Mexican and Cuban brands.

Don't let the location fool you either. Wabasha is located in a secluded valley in southern Minnesota and temperatures average 20 degree above the rest of the state year round.
