Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night, but it was still great! We were served a delicious piece of homemade chocolate cake upon our arrival in the afternoon. After unloading our suitcases, we took a walk around the area. You are able to walk down to the water and out to the lighthouse and watch the ship being filled with coal. It is a beautiful view of Lake Superior and a great picture taking experience! Later in the evening we performed our "lighthouse keeper in training" duties by lowering the flag.
The next morning we had a great breakfast with the other guests: homemade muffins, local fruit, eggbake, and potatoes cooked by the very friendly Gerry. Very interesting to visit with them and hear their vacation experiences!
Oh, and the best part was the soft robe and slippers you are given at your arrival.
We will definitely be back when we can spend more time.

Two Harbors' Lighthouse makes you feel like you are the keeper in the early 1900's. Only the kitchen has a couple of modern appliances and they are styled to look old. Good beds, very clean, friendly people great you and serve breakfast. Climbing up the tower in the dark to watch Lake Superior is a very special treat. It even comes complete with ghost stories!

This is a very unique opportunity. The lighthouse is much the same as it was 100 years ago.

Downside:
The rooms are somewhat small. There is no A/C. Shared bathroom.

Upside:
The views are spectacular, so you don't notice the small room. Plus, you have the run of the lighthouse.
It's Minnesota, so how often do you need A/C?
Shared bathroom -- hmmm. No way to spin that one.

Breakfast is served at 9:00 am and was very good both days we were stayed. The staff is very friendly. They leave early in the evening allowing you to have the lighthouse to yourself (and the other guests). The area is very nice for hiking and sightseeing. A small gift shop is surprisingly well stocked.

Well worth the price for the uniqueness.

We stayed at this beautiful spot for one night last week and had a delightful time. There are three rooms, each with a view of Lake Superior, although it would appear that two of the rooms (on the back of the house) face one of the harbors while the Keeper's Room, in which we stayed, looks directly at the heart of the lake. A third accommodation is the Skiff House, detached from the main lighthouse. We were greeted with freshly-baked cookies, and there was a microwave & various mixes (cider, tea, etc) for guest use. Rooms had terry robes & slippers. Furnishings are lovely antiques, and guests are made to feel at home, as well as encouraged to serve as "assistant lighthouse keepers" by raising &/or lowering the flag, closing the portholes in the tower, feeding the deer & birds, logging the ships in & out of port, etc.

The sun is up early in the summer on the North Shore (about 5:30 a.m.) so I chose to go out with my cup of coffee on the shore-line rocks and watch at 1000 foot freighter pull into port. Then in for a luscious breakfast made by host, and local writer, Kate.

Log books & journals around the house include stories of previous guests, some of whom write about ghosts which may (or may not!) inhabit the property.
