We stayed at superior Shores pet friendly lodge one bedroom suite) in June of 2011 and again New Years weekend 2011-2012 in a pet friendly lake home. We were a little disappointed to find out that they did not have housekeeping in the lakehome, but we were given lots of extra towels, and trash bags to take back with us. At first, this annoyed me, but I had no problem since we had all the towels we needed and the trash was easy to take out to the dumpster. I love Superior Shores and have found the front desk staff helpful and friendly. I found Kent (asst, mgr) to be more than accomodating and we have always have a wonderful time there and would go back in a heart beat. We love it. I agree, the rooms in the lodge are a bit run down as far as furniture, etc, but they have been clean and it is such a relaxing place to go we will continue to go. My only wish is that there were pet friendly non smoking on the second and third floors and they would get rid of the horrible wooden sofas in the lodge suites. Otherwise, we love everything about it!!!!

I have mixed emotions about Superior Shores. When compared to many resorts up on the north shore there are many better options, but the location - so close to Duluth/Two Harbors is extremely convenient.
Positives: Staff, Location, Pet friendly.
Negatives: Staff, (some staff were GREAT, some not so great) worn down.
We reserved a pet friendly studio. Upon entering our room we found the room smelling clean and fresh but noticed the flannel duvet cover was DIRTY. I mean dirty, dirty. We are generally accustomed to the less appealing rooms for "pet friendly" but this duvet was so dirty I walked out to the hall to ask housekeeping if they had a clean one that could be exchanged for this one. They were two young women who seemed surprised, and I asked if they typically change them between stays and the answer was "if they are REALLY dirty!" There were stains and both sides were covered with (someone else's) dog hair. They quickly brought me a clean cuvet and all was good, but you get the picture.

Location: You cannot see the lake from the first floor due to the vegetation, and it's very rocky and difficult, so not very friendly to walk around down there.
On the other hand, the location was nice as we went into Two Harbor's and had a couple of meals there and found friendly service, and good food.

Our studio had a large jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, but that was also the "shower" so it was interesting to crawl into the giant tub and use a rigged up shower in the morning.

Our room also had a built in platform sofa and matching wooden chair that were NOT comfortable. Full kitchen which was GREAT, with a bar, No kitchen table, and a fireplace that was on a timer. It was a bit distracting and a letdown to hear the ticking of a timer everytime you wanted to have the fireplace burning. I suppose they don't want guests running the fireplace all night long, and I don't blame the concept, but the purring of the timer was annoying and killed the ambiance.

Love going to the north shore. Not sure for what we paid if we would return here again, as I would probably go back to Lutsen or Superior Shores for the same price - longer drive.

Checked into the hotel/resort for a one night stay. We had been there before and thought it was great. This trip was quite disappointing. First room had a running toilet that would not stop. Second room had a jacuzzi that would not turn on the jets. The jets were set automatically by a sensor, and the sensor did not work. The rooms are quite nice for the price...if things work the way they are suppose to. Will look at other places in the future.

It was a busy weekend in October so we didn't expect a lot of service, but we recieved no housekeeping service during our stay, although I called the front desk and asked about it. They assured me they would get to us (in Burlington Lake condo) after they had made up rooms for arriving guests. Finally, at 6:15 pm a housekeeper arrived and asked if we "needed anything." There was no hint that she was prepared to clean the place and we were already having dinner. We took some fresh towels. When I later wrote to the manager about my concerns via the hotel email program, I heard nothing in return. This just adds insult to injury. Although we have stayed in the past, we will find a nice cabin to rent instead in future visits to the area. I guess they can afford to dismiss loyal guests like us.
