“Wonderful Time at Fortune Bay Resort and Casino”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Last September my mother and I took a vacation to beautiful Nett Lake, Minnesota to visit some family members and had a wonderful time staying in nearby town of Tower, at the Fortune Bay casino. The experience was affected me in only positive ways.
After driving down a serine two lane road, carved through a pine tree forest, we found ourselves surrounded by natural beauty. Fortune Bay is located on the gorgeous Lake Vermillion, and although the rustic themed interior and comfortable rooms are inviting, the stunning scenery makes it difficult to say inside for long. The area surrounding the resort is home to all different kinds of wildlife. On a few occasions, while out, my mother and I encountered bald eagles. Exploring the environment around Fortune Bay was a rewarding experience for me. While hiking along the many nature paths and driving down country roads, I felt relaxed under the wide, blue skies. I highly recommend visiting during the fall in order to catch the change of the seasons. Also, during this time of year the local residents begin harvesting wild rice from the lakes, an interesting process to learn about.
As my mother and I walked out of the front entrance to have a look around, we saw signs pointing to all kinds of attractions such as the marina and the world-class golf course. However, because we were there to learn more about our Native American ancestry, the two of us chose to visit the Heritage Center, a museum dedicated to enriching visitors with information about the Ojibwe people. Filled with art, photographs, and an extensive amount of historical facts, the museum was one of the trip’s highlights. We even saw reference two some of our relatives. Back at the resort, the Bois Fort Band of the Chippewa was holding a tribal council meeting which was open to the public. Whether you are Native or not it is very interesting to be able to experience the culture of the local people.
The staff at Fortune Bay is also great. We had no trouble with any of the friendly employees. Upon hearing that my mother’s family lived in the area the manager, Norman Adams, came to visit with her and even gave her a free ticket to a concert being played at the resort. This act of personalized kindness was common among the staff of Fortune Bay.
As night fell, the two of us settled into the relaxed lobby area to visit with friends and family. Seated comfortably in front of the fireplace we admired the high ceilings and beautiful wood work in the room and spoke freely in the calm environment. After a while, our group moved to the dining room where we were treated to a delicious meal. The extensive buffet had something each of us enjoyed, from duck and crab legs to potato salad and pizza. And when the attentive server gave us the bill, we found the price to be quiet reasonable. Following, my family who was of age headed for a fun night at the two leveled, expansive casino. Myself and my younger cousins, however, spent our night in the hotel pool and sauna. From the large sundeck outside we could gaze at the stars without any interference from city lights.
Once we’d said goodbye to all of our visitors, my mother and I went back to our clean, comfortable room to go to sleep and upon waking up the next morning we watched the sun rise on our own personal balcony and were excited for our coming day at Fortune Bay.

“Another comment about front desk staff.........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

Normally all the staff at the front desk is friendly and helpful, but, and this is a but that's been there for years, the guy who works there, his computer is next to the window, every time we have had him check us in, he acts like he's so annoyed!! HIs answers are short and not one word more is said by him then what need be......like the words "thank you" and "have a great stay" are so painful for him! Maybe he needs to move to another position??
And the Bay has many beautiful rooms but you have to ask for the new section otherwise seems they put you in the older rooms, which arent the best.

“Only Have One Chance to Make a First Impression!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

My husband and I stayed at Fortune Bay for the first time this past weekend for his work holiday party. When we arrived after a long drive, we were greeted wonderfully by the door man (he was just as enthusiastic on our way out...very nice touch!), but that is where it ended. The Front Desk clerk was very unfriendly and not at all accomodating. It was like pulling teeth trying to get information from him such as how to get to our room (necessary since it is sort of a maze) and the scoop for breakfast (not included, but decent buffet in the morning). We stayed in a Superior room, but found nothing superior about it, pretty basic. We were disappointed with the food at the banquet and also that the pool was not in operation on the Saturday morning of our stay (there were young'ens way more disappointed that us!). I am really sensitive to smoke and thus would not return to this hotel. Even the lobby, though it is quite beautiful, is smoke filled. Yuck!

“The Best Hotel/Golf Course/Casino In Minnesota!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

My husband and I stayed at Fortune Bay Resort Casino for a weekend in August because of a friends wedding was there, also to play some golf, and alittle gambling.
The golf course was in TOP shape! One of the best courses in Minnesota by far! And we've played alot of nice courses! Way up north! The middle of the wilderness! The Casino is small, but the resturant/Buffet made up for it! I'm not a fan of buffets, but my family is. I loved everything on that buffet! We all agreed, that everything in the buffet was fantastic! The staff was friendly and helpful! We never met a single rude person! Positively recommend to anyone! We will be comming back for another enjoyable weekend!
P.S. If your bothered by cigarette smoke, than you probably won't care for the casino.

Room Tip: If you don't like cigarette smoke, get a no smoking room. A room with a belcony is nice! Beautif...

We really appreciate you taking the time to write such a glowing review about your experience with us. Often people are quick to complain when anything is wrong but never say anything when things are great.

Having run at over 90% occupancy for the entire summer and speaking with guests on a daily basis about their experience it's hard to believe what the reviews of our property are like on here.

We value your business and look forward to you visiting us in the future.

Thank you,

Garrett Lamppa
