We had stayed in this motel in the past, but it was a newer motel on our last visit. The front desk said it is to be remodeled in the future. The personnel at the front desk were very nice. Breakfast was ok.

I was aware of the smoking policy rooms and missed the policy where pets are able to stay there. So while we were in a room that was nonsmoking; it was close to rooms that were not. We noticed the smoke filled hallways on the day we left since they appear to be airing out these rooms next to us.
Pets (dogs) were left in the room during the day and you could hear them barking. There were areas of lawn I wouldn't walk on since this was a place the owners walked their dogs.

The mattresses were old and the decor outdated so with the future remodeling changes they seem to plan; this might change. The rooms did not appear real clean, but again this could be partial due to the dingy decor. Carpets in the hallways were stained and dirty in some areas of the motel.

I believe we would look to stay at a smoke free/pet free motel on the north shore in the future. We had recently stayed at the Hyatt downtown Chicago and what a difference for just a few dollars more. Nicely decorated, smoke free, new high quality queen mattresses with plush linen and a nice view of the city. We felt we really got a good value for the price we paid for this room.

We spent one night here on a one day tour of the North Shore. Would have preferred to stay in Grand Marais, but had to be in Minneapolis the next afternoon and wanted to shorten the drive. Duluth would have been even better, but the marathon had all the rooms booked. There is not much in Tofte so we went to Grand Marais for supper

The hotel lost our reservation that we made over the internet. Fortunately they hold several rooms in reserve because the AmericInn internet reservation system is always losing reservations. What kind of way is that to run a business? So we ended up in a noisy room in the worst location in the hotel even though I booked room 4 months prior.

Room was large enough for two parents, two teenagers and an air mattress for one of the kids to sleep on. Had a fridge, and large bathroom. Continental breakfast was below average, but at least there was plenty of room to sit. In fact, lobby was large with a fireplace and would be nice in the winter.

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend at the Americinn in Tofte. We have stayed there once before and have found it to be adequate for the price. On the plus side: the room was comfortable, well laid out, airconditioner worked well, an o.k. continental breakfast with make your own waffles was nice, the swimming pool, hot tub and outdoor deck was very good.

On the negative side: the first room given to us had water all over the bathroom floor. We moved across the hall and the front desk guy was very nice. The room could have been cleaner. We found pistachio shells on the floor, and the bathroom caulking was moldy looking as was the floor behind the toilet. For some reason housekeeping just couldn't leave a roll of toilet paper. So, everyday I had to ask at the front desk. The shower bottom was very slippery and there was no mat to use. The front desk clerk would often leave the area and there would be no one at the desk to help. They would bring a pager phone with them, but once she forgot and we had to wait for help. Most of these complaints are minor, but irritating. They also could fix these problems with a some decent management.

Overall it wasn't horrible, but there is room for improvement.

The staff are very helpful. Always clean. Wonderful place to stay
