Gitche Gumee was a very lovely place to spend a couple of nights. The lakeview room featured not only a lake view but deer sightings too. The view of the lake and the privacy and quiet of the property were perfect for relaxing...and the scones and coffee were first class!

This is a great B & B if you are looking for a clean comfortable place to crash at a reasonable price. I believe there are 4 rooms at this place. We stayed in room 4 which had a queen size select confort bed and the windows overlooked the lake. We got to wake up to the sunrise over Lake Superior which was great. When we go to North Shore we look for a place that is cheap, but not trashy or dirty (not for the pool and AC). Good location as it is half way up North Shore. There are no TVs if that is your thing. When we get done exploring the Northwoods we are ready to crash and like to stay away from media outlets, so it was perfect for us. We did bring a laptop and watch a DVD one night. They do have a fire ring you can use, along with a deck out back and a trail that leads down to the lake with a bench next to it. We were worried we may hear others, but didn't hear a thing all night (kids under 12 not allowed). You have your own private bathroom with a nice shower. They have fans in each room also, nature's airconditing is great. :-) A nightcap of Sherry awaits you and clean comfortable beds. People are friendly and you get fresh scones in the morning and your choice of coffee/espresso drinks. They also keep coffee, tea, and left over scones for guests. They let you use their ice and make you feel at home. I really liked this place and recommend it.
