“Lacking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

We have stayed here every year for a family gathering and find the staff to be fairly accommodating and the rooms OK for an overnight stay. But the "amenities" leave something to be desired. There is not enough room for everyone at the nightly reception or at breakfast the next day, the pool and hottub temps are chilly, the restaurant food is mediocre and the front desk does not answer their calls. As others mentioned, they ran out of parking in their lot, and suggested we go next door, which was also full. It also gets very loud in the evenings; staying on an upper floor helps, except that the guest children play in the glass elevators, so getting to the room can be a long wait (there is no first floor access in the stairwell). Lastly, the place could use a facelift -- the lobby and rooms, while clean, are getting a little dingy.

Room Tip: Stay on the upper floors and ask for a south side room (city view).

Dear not-naturally-red,

I want to thank you for taking the time to let us know how your recent stay was here at the Embassy Suites. I can understand your frustration with how things flow at our complimentary services area. When we are sold out, we try to do our best and accommodate the amount of guests that are using this service. It sounds like we did not meet your level of expectations.

As for the phones not being answered at the front desk, I can assure you that is not normal practice for our hotel. I have discussed your comments with our director of operations and he is communicating with his team members of the importance of this.

I can tell you that we are in the very early stages of renovation. We expect some very exciting things to be taking place in the future for our hotel.

We do hope that when you are back in the Saint Paul area, you will please consider us again.

Thanks for your feedback.

“Not what we expected”

We recently traveled to Dallas, TX and stayed at on Embassy Suites. So when we decided to go to a Minnesota Wilds game for my sons birthday we were glad there was an Embassy Suited near by. Now comes our stay, one of the ladies checking us in did not have patience in dealing with check ins and answering the phone she became very up set and at one point hung up the phone and said, "Fine hang up on me". The person in front of me was upset that there wasn't enough parking available and that soon became our problem also. When ask where we could park we were told that there was a public parking lot but she didn't know any of the details which I thought it would have been nice if she could of helped us. I finally talked to the other lady checking guests in and she was more helpful. We had to pay to park in the other lot. The room was clean but a piece of tile was messing and caulking was coming off, there were not pillows and blankets for the pull out and when we called the front desk at 11:30pm no one answered so we had to go down the the front desk. The man that brought the bedding was very nice. So that is the good and bad.

Dear mtpork,

I appreciate you taking the time to post your comments regarding your latest stay with us. It disturbs me to hear this kind of feedback and I can assure you that I have brought your comments to the attention of the front desk staff.

Although we do have a parking lot, there are occassions where we do not have enough parking for all of our guests. I can understand the frustration you had with not having a parking spot and then not getting the proper direction of where you could park.

In regards to the amentities in the rooms, it is not proper practice to not have extra pillows and blankets in the rooms and am sorry they were not there for your use.

I do hope that if you are visiting the area again, you will give us another try and please feel free to reach out to me directly so I can personally handle your accommodations.

Sincerely,

Rosco Larson

“Consistent Quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This is my favorite place to stay when traveling to St. Paul on business. Conveniently located off I-35. The restaurant located in the hotel has good food if you don't want to venture out. The restaurant staff is very accommodating to solo travelers. The big downside is the outdoor parking, especially in the winter.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the freeway.

“Best Hotel for the money in St. Paul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Even though we live in St. Paul we stay at this hotel on special occasions and tell people asking where to stay in St. Paul to stay here. It is an awesome atmosphere and feels like St. Paul from days of old with the brick and iron railings. The pool is quite small and often overrun with youth but they do have an adults only swim time at night. I love to be there in the winter because the palms and plants let you pretend that it isn't below zero outdoors. The attached cork's pub has reasonable food as well.

Dear Nerzie,

Thank you for posting such nice comments about the Embassy Suites Saint Paul-Downtown. We appreciate you taking the time to tell us what you think of our property. I am glad to hear that eventhough you live downtown, you look to us for your special occassions.

It is very nice to take in some of the palm trees and waterfall feature when it is cold outside and we all wish we were somewhere warm. Keep those recommondations coming and let me know if there is anything I can help you with in the future.

“real ducks, nice mgt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

As a local, I've not needed to stay in a room here, have had guests stay. The hotel management has been engaged in the revitalization of downtown and great to work with. The happy hour can't be beat. The real ducks are fun, and the location is good.
