“I've stayed at better SpringHill Suites properties”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

My parents and I stayed here during a weekend visit to Minneapolis. The price was reasonable and the location is great -- we were within 10-15 minutes of everything we wanted to do. The rooms aren’t quite as well laid out as in some of the newer SpringHill Suites properties, the décor is a little dated, and breakfast is served on Styrofoam plates with plastic utensils rather than on real plates with metal utensils, but the bed was comfortable, the free wireless internet access now available in all rooms worked well and the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful.

If you are traveling at a time when occupancy is likely to be high, however, I would think twice about staying at this hotel. The hotel was packed the weekend we were there -- two large tour groups the first night and a full house again the second night. The breakfast room is much too small to accommodate all of the guests when the hotel is full. Overflow seating was offered in a back room, but eating breakfast around a large banquet table with a bunch of strangers is not an especially appealing option. The serving staff could not keep up with replenishing the buffet and some obvious things were not provided at all (no bananas?).

Noise from the parking lot was also a problem. The first night we were there and again early the first morning of our stay, one of the tour buses sat in front of the hotel for what seemed like a long time with its diesel engine running loudly. More of an issue, the second night of our stay, a large group of people congregated in the parking lot having a grand old time and making LOTS of noise -- a second call to the front desk eventually got them quieted down, but by then it was after midnight.

On previous occasions, we have stayed at the Hampton Inn in Minnetonka. It offers rooms for a similar price and we probably will book there the next time we come to Minneapolis.

One minor comment: The hotel is adjacent to I-394, but if you do not have a GPS, I would suggest printing out detailed directions for getting to it from the exit -- the address is Wayzata Avenue, but the only street sign you will see for Wayzata Avenue would take you in the wrong direction.

“Clean room, nice people, safe area, not a suite. Great breakfast”

Large room divided by a partial privacy wall. 2 television sets about 15 feet from one another. Clean. Microwave, refrigerator, large sink in a kitchen area. Large desk to work on. Comfortable couch. Comfortable beds. Sink area separate from shower room. Free breakfast has variety, eating area is very clean. Fast elevators. Everything was in good working order, all in good condition.

“it was okay, but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2009

the pictures of the room are decieving. we stayed in a 2 queen with a pull out couch. When you pulled out the couch, you couldnt get to the door. Fire Hazard my husband called it. We had to rearrange the room so we could get out of there. The bathroom was small. it was cramped. But it was close to the city for the price. If I had to do it over again, I'd pay the extra $$ to stay in a hotel where I could move around the room.

“HORRIBLE treatment - DO NOT RECOMMEND”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2009

upon arriving there were kids running EVERYWHERE unsupervised, knocking on my door and my mother's door until 11:00 pm and later. Mom's small dog was with staff told her on the first night of the stay that pets are not typically allowed, just make sure she is quiet. Left the next day to look for housing in the area as we are being transferred 600 miles away from home (took the dog with us) came back and was told that we could not stay the second night of our reservation due to policy. Not only did they charge me for both rooms for both nights, but there are two identical charges so ultimately I stayed one night with two rooms and am paying for 4 nights in 2 rooms. Staff was very demeaning and rude. None of our requests were honored. They gave us 3 towels for a family of 4 in a room.....

“A room, a bed and not much more”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

Pros: The beds are good and the rooms are clean

Cons:
- Breakfasts are served on styrofoam plates with plastic utensils - you'd think they'd regard their patrons higher than picnic-ware.
- Breakfast food is gross. The eggs look like plastic and the sausages taste like those styrofoam plates.
- Plumbing looks worn, despite it seeming to be a pretty new hotel
- The internet connectivity is useless. They only have WiFi in the lobby and cable connections in the rooms. Despite being on a wire-connection, the speed is TERRIBLE. I swear dial-up must be faster.
- The night desk attendant has a habit of vanishing - not good if you need help.

Bottom line:
- If you're looking for a cheap place to sleep, and nothing more - it's an ok choice.
- If you're need a place to stay while on business - stay away. You can't be productive here.
