“It's a run down dump”

I was in town on business (my office is less than a mile from there). I arrived in the early afternoon and my room wasn't ready. I finally got in it at around 4:30 or so. I needed a non-smoking room and they assigned one to me. When I got to the room, it was marked "non-smoking" but the room had obviously been smoked in a lot, and recently. I took that in stride and assumed they just didn't know someone used it as a smoking room. - strike one

The room decor was old and things did not appear in good repair, but I figured, what the heck, I'm there and I'm tired. I drove somewhere to get a meal (no food on site). When I got back, I was tired and went to bed. The bed I had, was one of the most uncomfortable ones I've ever slept on.. or should I say, not slept on. The linens were okay, but the mattress and bed were awful. I had a couple of other business associates with me. They reported the same problems. I'm only in a hotel for one reason... a good night's rest. - strike 2

The complementary breakfast was mediocre, at best. The selection was poor, and the "warm" food I had was cold. - Strike 3

I won't be back.

I stay in hotels 100 nights or so each year. While they're not usually my first choice, I generally find Holiday Inn Express hotels to be clean, up to date, and decent places to stay. Perhaps this one has yet to be upgraded, but it certainly didn't fit my expectations.

“Would be good with a few fixes...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2008

My first impression of our room was good. It seemed to be clean and comfortable, that is until I turned down one of the beds and found a condom wrapper in the sheets! I went to the front desk and demanded that both of the beds be completely stripped and changed, but the clerk offered to upgrade us to a suite instead. So we took the suite, which had 2 rooms (king size bed in one room and pull-out couch in the other), a kitchenette, jacuzzi tub, and big screen TV. The suite seemed to be clean, no surprises in the bed, but was in need of updating. The towel rack fell off the wall, the AC in the sitting room did not work properly, and the breaker in the bathroom kept tripping when we weren't even using it. I requested that the AC be fixed and that sheets be brought up for the pull-out couch. The maintenance person did not come up until the next day and then he didn't even do anything to the unit because it happened to be working when he was there (it quit 2 hours later). When we pulled out the couch bed that evening there was what appeared to be blood and drool stais on the sheets and the mattress looked like it had been run over by a steam roller several times. Clean sheets were brought up, but we were told there was nothing that could be done about the sorry mattress on the sofa bed. So we ended up having to pad the mattress with 2 folded blankets.
Overall, I would say it would have been a decent stay if more attention was given to cleanliness and maintenance.

“Decent Hotel, Would Stay Again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2008

Being that I usually only stay in a hotel for one night I don't bother to unpack my suitcase. I was disappointed when I didn't find a rack for one in my room. I called the front desk and the girl told me that they didn't have enough for all the rooms but that if I would like one she would look for one. Within 30 seconds she was knocking on my door with one. Service here was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and I just love the triple sheet bedding at the Holiday Inn Express. It makes me feel like things are so much cleaner. Anyway, two complaints, the temperature in the room was really hard to control and I always felt like I was too hot or too cold. Also, the coffee in the morning was really gross. Other then that things were good. I was in the first room off the lobby and was worried about noise but it was quiet. Also, the fitness center was standard with only some cardio equipment.

“Good - But some issues...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2007

My wife and I stayed at the Roseville Holiday Inn Express in August 2007. We stayed 2 nights. When checking in, the desk clerk noticed that I am a Platinum member of their Priority Club, and offered me a complimentary room upgrade to a suite! This was unexpected and very much appreciated! The room was very nice. It was twice the size of a regular room and had nice furniture and a very large, very cool, rear projection TV! There was a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and small refrigerator. Our only disappointment was that the bathroom was quite small. But since everything was clean we could certainly handle a small bathroom. At this point we could not have been more pleased!
However, when I tried to log onto the free wireless internet, that all Holiday Inn Expresses offer, I was not able to access the signal. I called the front desk for assistance. The desk clerk was very polite, and suggested that I come down to the lobby to receive the signal. I did, and that worked. But, when I returned to my room, my laptop lost the signal.
I was hoping that it was a temporary internet problem. So I tried the next morning and still could not receive a signal. I went down to the front desk with my laptop, and again inquired about the problem. The morning desk clerk was again very polite, but almost quoted the overnight desk clerk's words, saying that I should access the internet while in the lobby.
It is apparent to me, that if both clerks addressed the issue in the same manner, this is an issue they are familiar with, and they are “playing” as though no other guests have encountered this problem. (although I saw a few other guests using their laptops in the lobby) It is my opinion that they are very much aware of this problem, and are just not addressing it at this time. To me, this is very unacceptable.
For our two day stay, we were not able to access the wireless signal from our room. This was a big disappointment, as we were careful to select hotels that have internet access in their rooms.
Other than the internet problems, there were a few other minor maintenance issues. The kitchenette sink drain was very slow (almost completely clogged). Also the bathroom sink drain plug was broken. The 5th floor ice machine and washing machine were both out of order.
Overall our stay was fine, but we were somewhat disappointed with the above mentioned issues. Everything was clean, which is the most important thing. I do want to emphasize that the staff was excellent. They were professional and very polite, especially the lady running the continental breakfast. She was outstanding!

“awful”

I did not expect too much from this hotel, but I figured it would at least be up to HI Express standards. It wasn't. The room was stuffy, the AC was loud and ineffective, the bathroom was a disaster (clogged toilet, no drain plug in the bathtub), the remote for the TV didn't work, etc. Even the front door, the best chance they have to make a good impression, was broken.
