“Good - But some issues...”

My wife and I stayed at the Roseville Holiday Inn Express in August 2007. We stayed 2 nights. When checking in, the desk clerk noticed that I am a Platinum member of their Priority Club, and offered me a complimentary room upgrade to a suite! This was unexpected and very much appreciated! The room was very nice. It was twice the size of a regular room and had nice furniture and a very large, very cool, rear projection TV! There was a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and small refrigerator. Our only disappointment was that the bathroom was quite small. But since everything was clean we could certainly handle a small bathroom. At this point we could not have been more pleased!
However, when I tried to log onto the free wireless internet, that all Holiday Inn Expresses offer, I was not able to access the signal. I called the front desk for assistance. The desk clerk was very polite, and suggested that I come down to the lobby to receive the signal. I did, and that worked. But, when I returned to my room, my laptop lost the signal.
I was hoping that it was a temporary internet problem. So I tried the next morning and still could not receive a signal. I went down to the front desk with my laptop, and again inquired about the problem. The morning desk clerk was again very polite, but almost quoted the overnight desk clerk's words, saying that I should access the internet while in the lobby.
It is apparent to me, that if both clerks addressed the issue in the same manner, this is an issue they are familiar with, and they are “playing” as though no other guests have encountered this problem. (although I saw a few other guests using their laptops in the lobby) It is my opinion that they are very much aware of this problem, and are just not addressing it at this time. To me, this is very unacceptable.
For our two day stay, we were not able to access the wireless signal from our room. This was a big disappointment, as we were careful to select hotels that have internet access in their rooms.
Other than the internet problems, there were a few other minor maintenance issues. The kitchenette sink drain was very slow (almost completely clogged). Also the bathroom sink drain plug was broken. The 5th floor ice machine and washing machine were both out of order.
Overall our stay was fine, but we were somewhat disappointed with the above mentioned issues. Everything was clean, which is the most important thing. I do want to emphasize that the staff was excellent. They were professional and very polite, especially the lady running the continental breakfast. She was outstanding!

“awful”

I did not expect too much from this hotel, but I figured it would at least be up to HI Express standards. It wasn't. The room was stuffy, the AC was loud and ineffective, the bathroom was a disaster (clogged toilet, no drain plug in the bathtub), the remote for the TV didn't work, etc. Even the front door, the best chance they have to make a good impression, was broken.

“Needs Work”

We stayed at this location for 6 days with our soccer team. There were many teams in town and I thought they should have been better prepared. The continental breakfast started at 6 a.m. and was out of fruit by 7:30. We also felt the housekeeping staff did only the bare minimum. The entire place was in need of an overhaul. We had torn shower curtains, broken toilet seats and sink drains that didn't drain. Also, being from out of town, I expected the desk staff to be more friendly and helpful - not just toss a map at me. We made a poor choice.

“Everything was very good,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2005

My wife and I spent three nights here in August 2005 and everything was very nice. The hotel is quite large, with six floors, and has two elevators making access to all floors quick and easy. Our room with a king size bed and sitting area was large, with plenty of room. Our room also included a microwave and refrigerator. Our bed was good, our room was very quiet, and both the living area and bathroom were very clean. All of the staff were pleasant. Breakfast was typical for Comfort Inn hotels and the breakfast room had a full-time attendant keeping everything replenished and clean.

The hotel is located in an industrial area, very convenient to I-35W, and very easy to find. It is fairly close and very convenient to both Minneapolis and St. Paul. Although it appears there are no restaurants in the area, we quickly learned the large Rosedale Mall is just over 1/2 mile away and is surrounded with over 20 restaurants of all types, and is a very popular area for locals. To make things easy, the front desk had maps for us to take, showing the location of the various restaurants. The hotel has no pool, but it does have a fitness center. Most of the guests we saw were business people or couples, rather than families with children, and the hotel is the type we would describe as a business hotel or hotel for adults.

Overall, we rate the hotel very good in all respects and a good hotel for both business people and other adults looking for a very good, very clean and very convenient place to stay in the area. We definitely would stay here again.
