My wife and I stayed at the Roseville Holiday Inn Express in August 2007. We stayed 2 nights. When checking in, the desk clerk noticed that I am a Platinum member of their Priority Club, and offered me a complimentary room upgrade to a suite! This was unexpected and very much appreciated! The room was very nice. It was twice the size of a regular room and had nice furniture and a very large, very cool, rear projection TV! There was a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and small refrigerator. Our only disappointment was that the bathroom was quite small. But since everything was clean we could certainly handle a small bathroom. At this point we could not have been more pleased!
However, when I tried to log onto the free wireless internet, that all Holiday Inn Expresses offer, I was not able to access the signal. I called the front desk for assistance. The desk clerk was very polite, and suggested that I come down to the lobby to receive the signal. I did, and that worked. But, when I returned to my room, my laptop lost the signal.
I was hoping that it was a temporary internet problem. So I tried the next morning and still could not receive a signal. I went down to the front desk with my laptop, and again inquired about the problem. The morning desk clerk was again very polite, but almost quoted the overnight desk clerk's words, saying that I should access the internet while in the lobby.
It is apparent to me, that if both clerks addressed the issue in the same manner, this is an issue they are familiar with, and they are “playing” as though no other guests have encountered this problem. (although I saw a few other guests using their laptops in the lobby) It is my opinion that they are very much aware of this problem, and are just not addressing it at this time. To me, this is very unacceptable.
For our two day stay, we were not able to access the wireless signal from our room. This was a big disappointment, as we were careful to select hotels that have internet access in their rooms.
Other than the internet problems, there were a few other minor maintenance issues. The kitchenette sink drain was very slow (almost completely clogged). Also the bathroom sink drain plug was broken. The 5th floor ice machine and washing machine were both out of order.
Overall our stay was fine, but we were somewhat disappointed with the above mentioned issues. Everything was clean, which is the most important thing. I do want to emphasize that the staff was excellent. They were professional and very polite, especially the lady running the continental breakfast. She was outstanding!
