“Very pleased”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed several nights at this hotel while a family member was at St. Mary's Hospital. It is directly across the street, which was very convenient. The amenities I found most helpful were the free parking, free breakfast (better than average continental breakfast), free wifi, and free laundry. I was amazed to learn there are two washers and dryers to use at no cost, along with free laundry soap and dryer sheets!

The rooms are very recently renovated. In fact, the lobby is still under renovation. My room had a small refrigerator and microwave, desk with chair, and pull-out sofa along with two double beds. It was very roomy. There were many plug-ins to charge phones, iPad, etc. The bathroom set-up had a vanity outside the actual bathroom, which was nice for when there are multiple people getting ready. The bed was comfortable, and there were four pillows on each bed (some were more flat and firm, and some were fluffier and mushy, so something for everyone).

There is a small pool and work-out room, but I didn't use either so I can't comment on specifics. There is also a shuttle which runs fairly often to the Mayo Clinic and back. The rooms were very clean, and the staff was friendly. I would definitely stay again if I was in the Rochester area.

“Rooms are very nice, Hotel entry needs help!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed here on Friday the 13th (January 2012). We had appointments at Mayo and got the hotel through Priceline for $55/nt. You'll like the hotel. It's currently being renovated. I guess the 2nd through 4th floors are complete and the 1st floor is in-process, thus the comment about the hotel entry! I personally don't like the decor style used, but I'm an old fuddy duddy. Once in your room you'll have a nice new suite with a large king bed. Plenty of room to stretch out and wind down. We stayed on the west side of the building and the lights from the parking lot made the room a bit light for sleeping. We'll ask for a west side room next time. Rooms are quite. Parking is free. Breakfast is nice with several hot items, waffels, scrambled eggs, egg patties and sausage patties as well as some just okay pastries. Plenty of cereal and other cold items and FRESH fruit. Fitness room is VERY tiny. Pool is small. Because of surgery couldn't use them anyway so no big deal. One suggestion to the management. When the hotel desk clerk is folding towels and such it doesn't make a good first impression that you're staying anywhere special. More like a Motel 6 feeling. Just food for thought. Anyway, we like the hotel overall and its very near Mayo and St. Mary's. We'd absolutely stay here again.

Room Tip: Try a room on east side for darker room at night.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay with us. The positive comments on our newly renovated rooms, free parking, & complimentary breakfast are truly appreciated. Making improvements to the hotel can disrupt our normal operations and impact our guests and we sincerely apologize that our first floor was in progress during your stay. We also appreciate the feedback on the hotel front desk folding towels, as we are constantly striving for ways to improve all aspects of our operation.
Thank you again,

“Beware if you are a chemo patient or immune challenged”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

The Good- Friendly staff and the room we were in was remodeled and very clean. Nice job on the rooms!
From what we could see the hotel uses challenged individuals with partners to clean.
This is AWESOME and kudos to you Marrott. This if nothing else made the hotel a winner in my eyes.

The Bad- The motel is in the process of renovating. There is massive amounts of dust in the air through out the first floor. We stayed four days and should have probably left after the first night. At one point they had scaffolding for you to walk on to access the entry door. While we were there we saw a 90 plus year old man with a cane attempt this. Most guests we talked to were upset as not one we spoke to was told of the renovation...or the degree of renovation before they booked the motel. SHAME on you Marroitt!!!!! You have to be aware that many of your guests are there for medical reasons and should not be around this type of enviroment.
I can not stress the degree of renovation. The dust in the air was massive and dust was caked on every surface. You literally had to navigate aroudn construction equipment and items that were pulled out inot the hall. OSHA should be called because there is no way it is safe for employees to breath this dust on a day to day basis. Every construction guy had a mask and used it. I heard quite a few question why you wouldn't shut the motel down for the "final" faze.....the entry and communal areas??? Also, as previously stated the internet is almost non-existant.

Thank you for your positive comments regarding our staff and newly renovated rooms during your stay with us. Also, your comments on our Ability Building Center crew. You are right, they are AWESOME and do a great job. We apologize for the condition & the dust on our first floor, as it was challenging for all our guests and staff. Although brief in duration, we are sincerely sorry that your experience with us was while we were under the final phase of construction. Our efforts to notify our guests through the reservation process clearly were not sufficient. That is unacceptable and please know that we take your comments very seriously.
Please accept my sincere apologies.

“Fine hotel, especially for biz travelers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Lobby was being renovated while we were there but rooms were fine. Large desk that would be good for biz traveler. WiFi was so-so on 3rd floor but better the second night on 2nd floor. Bed was comfortable but didn't like the pillows. Exercise room had one elliptical and one treadmill. I'd stay there again.

“Decent property at a good price in a decent location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

I know that for the 2 consecutive weeks that I stayed at this hotel recently they were undergoing a renovation. However, they are doing it from the top down and everyone I met while there was staying in a top floor (4 of 4). No one was put in an old room...kudos to them. The renovated rooms are large, clean and well equipped with a small fridge and microwave for those planning an intermediate or even shorter stay. The location is blocks from the Mayo clinic but not exactly close and across the street from St. Mary's Hospital. They could use some help with their parking area but it was never full. The traffic on that road (2nd Street) is always busy but not overwhelming. The staff (with one execution) were friendly and accommodating. The only real negative was the horribly bland yet free breakfast (eggs especially which were not only not actual eggs but badly made at that.) Also the hydraulic elevator is REALLY slow but since it's only a 4 story building probably won't be upgraded. I would say it's a good option if you're in Rochester but you could get better by spending more.

Room Tip: Until the renovations are complete make sure you stay on a high floor.
