We stayed at the Rochester Marriott that was in the subway of the Mayo Clinic for a week in June, 2011. We stayed there because I needed a week of testing at their autonomic lab, and the Rochester Marriott was in the underground subway system of the Mayo Clinic, so it made it VERY convenient to walk to and from my plethora of medical tests each day.
The proximity of the hotel to the clinic was so wonderful, and the room had a separate living/dining area, so my husband could work on his computer in the living room while I took a nap. And they had a fully stocked kitchen, and they offered FREE grocery store services. All we had to do was make a grocery list in the morning, and they would go the the grocery store and stock our kitchen for FREE, and the grocery store bill was charged to our room. It was GREAT!!!
The only problem I had with the hotel was that one of the staff members would not give me the discount I was entitled to. At the time of my stay I was a Department of Defense employee, and on the Marriott.com website, it stated that the hotel offered lower rates for DOD employees. However, upon departure, when they brought the bill to our room we noticed they charged us the full rack rate for the room. While in a wheelchair I brought this to the attention of the front desk clerk, and she said she checked me in and that I did not give her my military ID. I told her numerous times that she did NOT check me in, but she was convinced she did until another employee informed her that she was incorrect. 30 minutes later, while I'm in a wheelchair, she FINALLY gives me the DOD employee rate, but she did not have any apology for being incorrect, and she did not care that I was ill and in a wheelchair. It was very frustrating because we were spending $2K on our trip from San Diego to Minnesota to go to the Mayo Clinic for their specialized testing, and I was so incredibly dissapointed in the service I received from one of the employees. Besides that one encounter, the remainder of our stay was GREAT and I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Mayo Clinic and needing a hotel.
Room Tip: Any hotel room is great, but the best rooms are the suites with a separate living room/dining room...
