“Fantastic Room, One Of The Best In Down Town Rochester”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

This motel went above and beyond as with most Marriotts. Great, did I say GREAT room. Clean, spacious, modern...ideal room. Resturant and bar on site plus the ped mall and Mayo are right outside the door. The downfalls are they have no parking. You have to park at a city lot. Valet can do this for you but when the average room price is over 200.00, this is a negative for sure. I would stay at again and again but only through a bidder site as 200.00+ is overkill.

“Fantastic service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I was at Mayo Clinic on business and was booked into the Marriot. I expected the usual generic experience. Maybe because the Mayo area hotels are used to doing international business with visitors and patients to this works renowned institution, the service was over and above from check in to check out. The receptionist thought hard about getting me a quiet room, and I got one at the end of a hall, the bell hops walked me to restaurants nearby, put my luggage into my car, and when the hotel shop was out of a toiletry item I wanted, they delivered one to my room free of charge (although I tipped more than I am sure it would have cost). Kudos to this hotel for making my stay so easy and personalized, which certainly contributed to my overall wonderful experience in Rochester, MN.

stayed here for a four three day conference. Hotel has been updated and bar area is very nice for visiting and relaxing. Bed was great except the sheets didn't stay on. Quiet rooms.

“Wonderful hotel room, but expensive and staff unfriendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We stayed at the Rochester Marriott that was in the subway of the Mayo Clinic for a week in June, 2011. We stayed there because I needed a week of testing at their autonomic lab, and the Rochester Marriott was in the underground subway system of the Mayo Clinic, so it made it VERY convenient to walk to and from my plethora of medical tests each day.

The proximity of the hotel to the clinic was so wonderful, and the room had a separate living/dining area, so my husband could work on his computer in the living room while I took a nap. And they had a fully stocked kitchen, and they offered FREE grocery store services. All we had to do was make a grocery list in the morning, and they would go the the grocery store and stock our kitchen for FREE, and the grocery store bill was charged to our room. It was GREAT!!!

The only problem I had with the hotel was that one of the staff members would not give me the discount I was entitled to. At the time of my stay I was a Department of Defense employee, and on the Marriott.com website, it stated that the hotel offered lower rates for DOD employees. However, upon departure, when they brought the bill to our room we noticed they charged us the full rack rate for the room. While in a wheelchair I brought this to the attention of the front desk clerk, and she said she checked me in and that I did not give her my military ID. I told her numerous times that she did NOT check me in, but she was convinced she did until another employee informed her that she was incorrect. 30 minutes later, while I'm in a wheelchair, she FINALLY gives me the DOD employee rate, but she did not have any apology for being incorrect, and she did not care that I was ill and in a wheelchair. It was very frustrating because we were spending $2K on our trip from San Diego to Minnesota to go to the Mayo Clinic for their specialized testing, and I was so incredibly dissapointed in the service I received from one of the employees. Besides that one encounter, the remainder of our stay was GREAT and I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Mayo Clinic and needing a hotel.

Room Tip: Any hotel room is great, but the best rooms are the suites with a separate living room/dining room...

“A nice place, but the bed was awful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We stayed here because we're Marriott Rewards members. Being Rewards members, we've stayed at lots of Marriott's throughout the US. This has to be our worst Marriott ever. Why? It's the bed.

Other than the bed, it's a typical Marriott. Nothing special and geared towards either business or, in this case, Mayo Clinic visitors. I think a visit to Mayo Clinic is in order after sleeping on the bed. Both my spouse and I woke up with sore backs.

It was the hardest mattress I've ever slept on. A truly miserable experience. For $240 a night, it was ridiculous.

As a Rewards member, I like to stay at Marriott properties, but there is no chance I'll be staying here ever again.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.
