“Very good value. The room was spacious for the price & comfortable.”

Even though there was a water problem in the lobby from a sprinkler that leaked and very messy, life went on. They made an adjustment in the price for this. We usually stay at a place with subway connections to the Mayo Clinic. This was a change for us and okay for this visit. But subway connections are great in cold, snowy weather. This was nice because it was close to moderately priced places to eat.

“Best value in Rochester & surrounding. Staff always helpful & kind. Near Supercenters but quiet. Great kitchen & value!”

I've stayed at this property NUMEROUS times (maybe 60 nights in past year). There's a reason I keep returning. It is an AWESOME value.

This place is a great value. I live hours away from my daughter (4 yr old) who lives in Rochester. When I come to see her, she actually enjoys staying at this hotel which is the best surrogate for home I could ask for in a hotel room: kitchen, bath, full fridge, pots, pans, area to play, close to House of Bounce, movie theaters, Walmart, friendly, consistent staff that she and I have gotten to know, and price. I get my room via Priceline, but even the walk in rate is worth it. Fast food and finer dining are also in walking distance. Shuttles to Mayo clinic. The ladies at the desk are both kind AND beautiful, particulary the manager, Dawn, who always has a smile for you. The gents are also helpful and courteous. They have any-hour check in, too. This location is MUCH better than extended stay rochester SOUTH. Cleaning staff does an excellent job and I always tip (or try to). They are reasonable with the need to check out late or arrive early, which has been very important for me on check in day when I need to get my little one down for a nap around 1pm and check in is not until 3pm. They have in-house printing via email. They have laundry machines at $2 a load.

The issues I have experienced as negatives (in my many stays)...smell. Many times, guests cook like they are at home (spicy or other aromatic foods) that can overpower the entire floor of the hotel. PETS...what a nuisance. Why the rest of society has the absorb the "cost" of your having a pet (on the plane, in the hotel, etc.) is beyond me. Sometimes rooms have been stinky or our allergies "go off" in certain rooms. The front doors make it a real pain to move your stuff in. They are strong and want to close on you while you're negotiating luggage. The room and exterior doors have those keys that have to be left in the door to allow it to open, meaning they are often forgotten in the door. They ask, "What brings you to the area?" at every check in to see if you qualify for discounts or something, which is really none of their business. I've been standing there with a date, or watched cancer patients checking in, and think this question is inappropriate. I hate their internet fees. You can sit by a window in Ext. Stay Roch and get FREE internet from the hotel across the street, but this hotel charges you $5 to access internet for the duration of your stay (more if you want faster internet). I have had a FEW occasions where the water was tepid at high use time. There's no pool, fitness, or meeting area. You cannot hardwire to the internet (via ethernet). Smoking is still allowed (third floor). You have to re-fill check in forms and re-present your credit card each time you check in; no information is really kept on file, per se. Parking can be tricky/limited.

These are all minor issues for me save for the pets and internet. The price, and value for it, are the main things, and on this, the property excels.

“We have stayed here at least 15 times and it is an excellent value...”

I was astonished to read the poor reviews of Extended Stay North in Rochester. We have stayed there so many times and have never been disappointed at all. The desk staff are always very helpful and friendly, We tell people about it all the time and nobody has come back to Missouri with any complaints and end up staying there every time they go to Mayo. The motel is a great value for the area and is always clean and neat. We are very happy with Extended Stay North and will be going back next month.

“Only in a pinch...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2009

I would rate this hotel as average, maybe a little below. The hotel is close to Mayo with free shuttle service to and from the clinic. The shuttle that comes to Extended Stay didn't have a wheelchair lift, so make sure to have other transportation to the clinic if you are wheelchair bound. The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. If you park on the side of the hotel where the other entrance door is, be prepared to lift the luggage cart up onto the sidewalk, as there is no ramp. The beds, as the previous reviews have stated, are hard. I'm not talking a little firmer than normal, I'm talking ROCK HARD. My back hurt so bad. We stayed for 3 nights and if we would've had to stay another night, we would've checked out. Also, the floors/ceilings are paper thin. We could hear the people above us walking around as if they were in out room. Annoying enough when you're already lacking sleep because the bed is so hard. The kitchenette area was nice, with a full size fridge, coffee pot, toaster, stove top, minimal silverware and dishes, a skillet and a sauce pan, and a strainer. The room also has an iron and ironing board. There is no daily room service, but you can get toilet paper and extra towels at the front desk. There's also a separate room with 4 washers and dryers, a pop machine, and a food vending machine (with laundry soap and fabric softner, shampoo). Lots of restaurants and shopping within a few blocks. There's also a menu in the room of a restaurant place that delivers, but the prices were a little high. We got other reviews of hotels from people on our shuttle bus, so overall I would only stay here again if I was in a pinch.

“Never Again!”

The staff is friendly enough at this place, but we travel a lot for my husband's job and this place is not where you want to stay. When we checked in we noticed that the hallways were filthy. When we got to our room it wasn't really clean, but not filthy. I noticed that the refrigerator and microwave were dirty, but at least the bathroom was fairly clean. The longer we were there the more issues we had with the filthiness. You only get house cleaning once a week. The first time they cleaned the room they did a below average job, but not terrible. After staying for 11 nights they were suppose to clean our room for a 2nd time so we made sure everything was off the counters, etc. so they could wipe things down. The floor didn't get vacumed, the bed linens weren't changed, the bathroom didn't even get wiped down at all! Our other complaint was the beds are rock hard. If you like a hard bed and filth, then this is the place for you. If not, try the Guest House. They both have the same shuttle to Mayo Clinic and the people that were staying there seemed to be much happier with their accomodations. Our Mayo rate was $52 per night, while there's was forty something and they had a pool. I complained to the manager and she did take $15 off my bill when we left. I won't stay here when we come back in December. If you're here for Mayo you just don't need these hassles at the end of the day!
