“I keep coming back! I love this place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I have been to Mystic Lake Casino six times now and I still love this place. I love to see new hotels and try out new areas to stay, but Mystic Lake is the exception. I originally started coming here when I went down with a group of friends that liked to gamble. I don't really gamble and I still loved this place! They have some fun games that are cheap to play, so you don't have to be a baller to do some gambling.

I have since been back with several groups of friends as well as with my girlfriend. Everyone I have taken here loves it! The resort is beautiful, the casino is awesome, and the deal is unbelieveable. Watch out for the CAA deals or similar deals. The first time I came here it was $59 a night and that included a free breakfast! The prices have gone up a bit, and it will depend on what day of the week or time of year you go, but there are still great deals to be had!

The valet parking is awesome. I would recommend tipping once in a while, but the valet is included and extremely convenient. The resort is a short drive to the Mall of America, as well as a number of other attractions. It's about a 12-15 minute drive as long as you avoid the evening traffic.

The hotel is gorgeous. The pool, hot tub, and sauna area is very nice, with rocks and plants. The main lobby is huge with a nice sitting area (yes you can smoke here, and I don't usually smoke but I enjoyed a cigar or two in the lounge). The casino is also gorgeous and they have spotlights that line the sky at night. The rooms are pretty basic, but we didn't spend much time in the room. The rooms have a great view, average beds, and average space. You don't come here for a luxury suite, but the rooms are decent. There is also a fitness centre that you get access to with your stay. I have worked out there a few times while on vacation and it's a great facility.

The steak restaurant is expensive but very good food. It's a very nice looking establishment right in the heart of the casino. The food court has some great quick options. The restaurant we enjoyed the most was the Minnehaha Cafe. The breakfasts are so good and so cheap. We always made sure to leave time to have a nice breakfast here. The little stand in the lobby also has great snacks, smoothies and coffees.

The big downside of this resort is the fact that it is a dry resort. Don't come here if you're looking for a drink at the hotel!

All in all I am a big fan of this resort. The deals are great if you watch for them. I have been there six times and I hope to be back again sometime in the near future!

“Enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I stayed here with a large group and we enjoyed every moment of the hotel experience, we are from Australia. Everyone was very nice always helpful. Rooms are clean and bigger then expected, clean daily. Gaming was a blast! Pool was beautiful and bus service arond a blessing thank . Only down side was the smoke through gaming room where we had to walk through to access the bus to the mall of America. We had 15 children with us so it was a down side .
Food was large and plenty.

“Treated with indifference”

We made arrangements to have an early check-in (7am) with a manager the day before. When we tried to check-in we were told very bluntly that there were no rooms available. While it is understandable that this might be the case, the level of apathy from Marla the clerk was shocking. She flatly told us to come back at 12:00. I asked her if something should come up sooner if she could call us and let us know. She bluntly told us that is it most likely that should would not have time to do this. I also should mention that we were traveling with a 3 month old baby. Thankfully we were able to stay in a friend's room for a few hours. Needless to say we did not receive a call from Marla. When we checked in at 12:00, (with Marla) there was no mention of our previous attempt to check-in nor apology of any kind. We were given our keys, without any explanation of the rules of the hotel or what the little name cards could be used for. We were not told about any of the amenities available to us.
I give the hotel 2 'stars' based on the staff not related to the front desk. The security was nice and the pool was lovely. The rooms were standard and the showers were small with poor water control. We stayed 3 nights and avoided the front desk at all costs. I can see why they are currently looking for new staff at the front desk. I can only hope for their sake the find more competent and educated hospitality staff.

we were there with a group of 30 and check in was extremely fast and efficient . We also were all placed together on the 6th floor. we were in Minnesota for an ice skating competition NOT FOR THE GAMBLING. However the adults in the group did spend a few dollars in the slot machine. This hotel suited our requirements as we trained in the associated ice rink. There were shuttles to take us to the rink , the Laundromat in the RV park, visitors centre ,bowling centre , the other little casino ( for meals) and MOST importantly MALL OF AMERICA. sooooo all the food was great, rooms spacious and very clean and well fited (big TV) , and there is even a little food court. Honestly the only negative is the smoking into casino and restaurants. apparently this is the only casino in Minnesota that allows it. so we traveled with 12 kids so the smoke thing wasnt the greatest

Room Tip: ask for the side with a view not view of RV park

“Will not return...”

My husband & I decided to stay at this Casino Hotel before attending a concert in Minneapolis. The rooms look like they have been updated, however they have a less-than-pleasant odor and decor. The rooms were not cheap, the food was expensive, we barely gambled because the machines were dirty & gross! Sorry we will not revisit :(
