We have stayed at several AmericInns in Minnesota with typically okay results for the price. This is one AmericInn we will NEVER return to, despite our frequent trips to the area.
The service - or more specifically Shawn who seems to be in charge - was terrible. He was rude, unprofessional, and should not be in any type of service industry. We called earlier in the week prior to our stay, to request an early check-in, as we had to be somewhere in town at 3 p.m. and wanted to check in and change beforehand. We were told to call back the morning of our stay to make the request. On the morning of our stay I called at 11:30 a.m. to make our request; we were told that check in time was 3 p.m. When I explained I understood that, which is why I was requesting an EARLY check-in I was given a long speech about how very busy they were and not a single room would be cleaned and ready before 3 p.m. We showed up at 3 p.m. and were waiting behind another guest checking in; at one point while Shawn was checking this guest in, he simply walked away and was gone for 5 minutes, leaving all of us mystified. When we finally got checked in we needed to leave right away so didn't look around at the room much. Upon our return to the room later that night we got a closer look: cigarette (in what was supposed to be a non-smoking room) burns in the curtains and bed spread, black smears on the ceiling, a toilet that wouldn't flush with the tank lid on, and wires dangling out of the wall where the smoke detector had been. It was too late (and we were too tired) to complain that night. Upon checking out in the morning, again Shawn was indifferent to our complaints, and again just walked away when we were still trying to get a receipt. Finally a maintenance man happened to come by the desk and provide us with a little assistance (as much as he could considering this was not his job!). Lastly, when we returned home, we discovered that something didn't get packed and must have been left in the room. When I called to inquire, I was told, by Shawn, to call back during business hours.
Though the lobby area has been redone and looks nice, our room was very poor, and the service was terrible. I noticed (too late, unfortunately) that another reviewer had complaints about Shawn from 2004, and I can only imagine it is the same employee. What a disappointment.
