this is a bit long, sorry, but... I work an overnight shift, 12 hours long, some three day weekends. I drive an hour to work. Recently we had a heavy snow/ice event on a Sunday, and I worked Saturday night and Sunday night. I decided not to chance it an find a motel. I
booked my room Saturday evening and explained to the desk clerk my situation. I would need the room to sleep ALL DAY on Sunday. I would actually not even enter the room until Sunday morning. He said that would be fine; they weren't too busy Sunday night. I was charged $105 for the room, which was plenty. I got to sleep at 7 AM and was awakened by phone at 10:30. It was the front desk demanding that I leave or pay $15 an hour extra. They'd not gotten the message from the night staff. I explained what happened at the desk the night before and refused to leave or pay extra. Another phone call at noon, this time they threatened to call the police. Again I refused. About a half hour later a knock on the door. The Owner. I invited him in and in my undies explained what happened. He apologized but didn't offer any kind of monetary apology. Why did they not at least call the night clerk to verify? The owner said "he shoulda left a note". I promised the owner I would leave a note on Trip Advisor.
Now, about the motel: I paid $105 for a $60 room. The rack rate notice on the door said $85, for 4 people. That seems right. The room had at least 2 of those gelatin type air fresheners masking a kind of funky underlying smell. Everything was cheap. A dirty old recliner, noisy heat, you get the picture. They were the last place in the area to clear snow; none of it was moved until hours after the snow event. Lights burned out in the halls.
I have traveled some and this was the worst experience I've ever had.
