“Needs Improvement”

Stayed for one night with a friend while visiting Northfield. The lobby is clean and nicely decorated and the front desk staff are friendly. We had a first floor room and it wasn't as quiet and sound-proof as the hotel claims it is. For example, the following morning the alarm clock went off in the guest room next to us and woke us up! Every time someone came or left a room on our floor, it sounded like an iron door slamming. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable - see the photo of the box spring - the beds are in dire need of replacement. The continental breakfast was good, but the batter in the waffle dispenser was either clogged or almost empty because it took about 5 minutes to fill a 6 ounce cup. I would probably consider another hotel next time I visit Northfield.

“Where's the tea?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2009

We stayed three nights at the end of May for a family reunion. The rooms were clean and the soundproofing was as advertised. While the breakfast was the usual continental plus waffles, we were disappointed that there was no black tea any of these mornings. We asked, but none was to be found. Each day the supply of teabags got lower and lower and consisted only of herbal and flavored teas. For those of us who like coffee, there were flavored syrup bottles next to the coffee, which looked promising, but they were empty. We even had to ask for cups for the coffee one of the mornings.
The other thing that we noticed was that it appears that they rent out the pool and breakfast room for private parties. As Northfield is a small town, I'm sure this is appreciated by the community, however, it limited the time we could enjoy the pool. As the weather was quite warm, this was an inconvenience. A pool full of screaming children is not where I want to go to relax.

“Basic, good room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2009

We had a 2 queen room with a table and two chairs, plus another lounge chair. There isn't a fridge or microwave and I was a little surprised there was no 'closet' - just a rack with hangers on it.

It was clean and the decor was fine. There was a tournament happening at the college in town while we were there and the pool was "taken over" by this group later at night. Although they seemed polite I was a little concerned about noise after 11pm wondering if the soundproof walls were going to live up their advertising. Relieved, they seemed to, as we didn't hear THAT much noise.

The continental breakfast was standard for this type of hotel, not very crowded, and the front desk staff ranged from quite friendly to looking bored. The only real complaint I would have is that the whirlpool tub in the pool area seemed dirty (or stained?) on the floor of it.

“Not the best in town”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2008

Stayed here twice between 2004 and 2006. The hotel is relatively secluded, a few minutes out of town, and the service is pretty good. The free breakfast is a nice plus. The rooms are reasonably comfortable, like a standard modern motel room--new, but nothing out of the ordinary. Note though, that if the hotel is fully booked, there will not be enough parking spots and if you arrive late, you will be parking in a sketchy, unlit school lot across the street. The Country Inn in town is a much better option.

“BEWARE...never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2008

This was not what we expected. I should have known something was wrong when we drove in and next door was a propane facility. The place looked nice though and we did have reservations made through the AmericInn website. Got a special winter rate on a room with a whirlpool tub by the bed. Yes, romance had a part in my decision. We were surprised when this room turned out to be an A.D.A. room. That said let me tell you what made this a terrible stay. The bed was very uncomfortable, the mattress pad was too small (there was about 12 inches on both sides where it was lacking. There was a hole in the blanket that my wife could put her hand through and every pillow seemed to have major lumps. We laughed that we could watch TV through the treadbare sheets. We both got very little sleep. The bathroom was not good either. The lighting was very bad, my wife complained when she put on her makeup. No heat in bathroom and the walls by the sink had 3 hairs stuck on it along with other gunk. The shower had no soap dish. On the positive side the water was hot and plentiful. Unfortunately though we had to run the heater on high all night to stay warm.
The reality of it is that if we had paid $25 a night for the room we would be more understanding, but we paid $136.88 for this room. Looked like a nice place but NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! will we stay there. ps...the romantic evening never got off the launch pad.

We are so sorry to hear that there was such an unpleasant experience with our property. We are taking steps to update all of our bedding to create more of a "like home" feel.

Clearly this guest did not experience the normal hospitality that so many of our guests are accustomed to and expect. As the winner of a 2008 AmericInn Delight Award , we can assure you we do our best to make every stay a pleasant one.
