Let's start with the lake. The 3rd Crow Wing lake is an abundant fisherie. It was rainy and lets say not the best weather conditions, but our party caught more than enough fish. Wonderful lake. The cabins are older, but are put together nicely. There are plenty of things to do close by as well.
We all had a really good time on Tuesday, and Wednesday until the evening. We wanted to have a campfire. The lodge owner told one of the people in our party @ 4:00pm that we were on our own because it was "date night" . So we got back from fishing and the fire pits were 2 foot deep with ashes. We did not know where to put the ashes so we move the fire ring and started our fire. We grabbed a bucket out of the shed and went and got kindling. We forgot to turn the light off in the shed, and when the resort owner came home, he came storming up to us asking who fixed my shop vac? We assume he was being smart, but then he said "Who was mess(not exact word) with my fire pit? Then hes said "Where is Randy, we need to talk now." so I went inside the lodge with him, and he then said "Don't mess(again, not exact word) with me, don't mess(you guessed it, not exact word) with my lodge." He then told us we used 25 dozen minnows the 1st day and wound up charging us for 75 dozen minnows for 2 days. DON'T BUY YOUR BAIT AT THE LODGE!!!!!
We will go back to that lake again, BUT NEVER WILL STAY AT BIG TIMBER LODGE AGIN!!!!

Our mistake. We rented to an Agribusiness who was sponsoring a 'free' 3 day fishing (and drinking) party for their 40+ best customers. We are a family resort with family values and should not have rented to a group that:
-Helped themselves to shovels from behind the closed doors of the shop (and left the lights on) so that they could dig a new fire pit in the LAWN in front of their cabin.
-Then started a bonfire and drunkenly explain why it was in a better location than the pit that was already there.
-Wouldn't use our honor system of signing out on a clipboard for the bait, soda's, candy bar's, etc they removed from the lodge. Instead, they just helped themselves without paying and then dumped their trash and unused minnows at the end of the docks.

The list of problems this group created is too long for my typing skills to go on. They can't come back. Groups like them can't come.

Read our other reviews and if they sound like your family, give us a call.

“50 plus years of memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

I have stayed at Big Timber Lodge now for years. Started with my Grandparents, Parents, then Children and now grandchildren. We stayed again last August with a party of 14 family and extended family members. Youngest a few months to oldert 62.
Great place to stay and make lasting memories. Fishing is great and the sunsets are spectatular as well. Hope you get an opportunity to stay at Big Timber Resort.

“Delightful lakefront cabins!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

Our family has been coming to Big Timber for years! Our boys are grown now, but we still all come back as a family year after year, none of us would miss it! The knotty pine cabins are comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxed. Not a lot of frills in the cabin (be ready to do your own dishes!) but there is more then enough to do at the lake! Lots of fishing, playing in the lake, a game room as well as horseshoes and shuffleboard, and personally I like putting a puzzle together while watching the sunset and the loons on the lake. Coming all the way from California, you know our family must love it here to return year after year! The lodge is run by Penny and Preston, two of the nicest people you will ever meet! They are quick to solve any problem that might arise, and if you ask Preston real nice, he might even tell you where the fish are biting. Our family usually goes to the lake over Memorial weekend, but the weather is unpredictable and you can go from cold to hot in a day. We came back again this year in July and I have to say the weather was perfect! We even joined the 4th of July lake parade and the fireworks over the lake were fantastic. We love Big Timber Lodge, I bet you will too!

“A place for peace and family, beautiful location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

Big Timber Lodge has left my family with a home away from home. Quiet and private location with access to several lakes. The cabins are clean and spacious with many styles to choose from. My family and I had a wonderful time and will return again. As far as things to do as a family there are many. Big Timber Lodge offers the use of pontoons, paddle boats and kyaks for those whom like to play on the water. The fishing is great with quiet low traffic lakes. The resort itself has many things for chidren, nice sandy beach, outdoor games, and a welcoming sense of seciruity. I would have to say Big Timber has something to offer everyone.

“A great place to spend time with family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

We have been coming to Big Timber for almost 30 years. The beach area is great, and so is the fishing. We enjoy the free coffee and hot chocolate in the lodge every morning. Penny and Preston have been be friendly and helpful. The week we spend at Big Timber has always been the highlight of the summer for our kids, and now also for our grandkids.
