“Falsely Accused of Stealing Bed Runners”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My husband, 3 kids and myself stayed one night at this hotel. We had visited this location previously. Shortly after checkout we received a message on our cell phone from the manager of the hotel accusing us of taking the bed runners and stated they were charging my credit card. I immediately called to say that we did NOT take the runners. I explained that we had a rollaway brought in, 4 extra blankets and extra pillows and that we were sure that they had accidentally been folded up in the additional bedding. The manager would not listen and insisted that we were going to be charged. I asked him for the phone number to the corporate office, a phone number to local police so they could come and help us sort out the situation and the manager refused and instead hung up on me. I did contact guest services that day and received a call the following day. They offered me a $50.00 gift card to stay again. I was very upset by this. They did NOT offer to have my credit card credited, they said that was up to the location mgr. I will NEVER stay here again! I want and expect an apology from this hotel AND it's corporate office! No one should EVER be accused of stealing! My husband and I did follow up by calling the Sheriff's department and explaining how we had been accused of stealing from this place. I will NOT let this happen to any other customer! There is some serious training this company needs to do with their employees. Please do not stay here! It literally ruined our family ski trip!

“A welcoming atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Ours was a midweek overnight in a two-room king suite, and would echo comments of other visitors: well-maintained--and decorated for the holidays at our stay--and every single staff person we encountered was friendly and committed to customer service, including housekeeping and the woman restocking breakfast. There is a small bar in the lobby area, and there was complimentary hot soup and cookies in the evening in addition to the usual hot beverage selection. The hotel is at the side of Hwy 53 and backs up to a railyard: the hotel provides earplugs in recognition of the train noise, but we didn't find them necessary as the hotel is well-insulated. On check-in, the room had a strong air freshener smell, but we opened a window before heading back out, and the room aired out completely by our return. Our suite was at the top of the stairs, leading me to wonder about noise from within the hotel, but that also was no concern at all. The breakfast was good: cheese omelettes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, toasting options, yogurt, and so on. The desk staff were great, especially Jennifer who copied some documents for me and was really pleasant.

Room Tip: The reservation website shows room floorplans.

“Planes, Trains and Bad Housekeeping...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

Pros: Right next to the Sawmill which has great food and a fun atmosphere. Plus, it's essentially in the same parking lot so if you tie one on, you can walk back to your hotel.

As others said, microwave and refrigerator in the room is nice, especially to heat up the leftover pizza from the sawmill the night before.

Staff is usually very nice and polite and the breakfast in the morning isn't bad but get there before 8.

Cons: The trains are every 2 hours or so and there is no way to avoid them. The hotel is right next to a crossing so the horns blow every time they approach the intersection. The only advice I can offer is to request a room on the highway side of the hotel as that does help considerably.

My most recent and what will be my last stay, I encountered a giant blood stain on my sheets just as I was about to climb into my bed. And I mean giant, about the size of a basketball. I called to the front desk and the younger gentleman was very nice. He came to the room and eventually left to get a biohazard bag to clear out the blankets and sheets. I complained the next day but the manager wasn't there or wasn't available and I had to leave for golf. Later that night I spoke with the ladies at the front desk and complained to them. They said they had heard about it and that housekeeping was having some serious issues as of late and they were not surprised by my experience. The next morning I was checking out and I spoke with the manager then. She actually had the nerve to accuse me of doing it to get a free room. Yes the rates are high for this area and location but I can swing the $100/nt rate without resorting to some disgusting tactic to get a free room. After a little haggling I was comped my two night stay. Had I been able to change rooms I would have only asked for one night but apparently that was not an option. I was asked not to write any reviews or post the photo of the bedding to facebook or youtube but this is not something that should go unnoticed. I wrote to AmericInn corporate and was told they were independantly owned/operated and the owner replied to me. He let me know that they had made a change in housekeeping leadership.

Needless to say, after this debacle I will not be back. I'll still stop into the sawmill for dinner and a drink after golf but that will be it. I'll pay extra to stay at Giant's Ridge.
