“Multiple Stays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This motel is close to where my son and daughter-in-law live so we have stayed here many, many times. It's not a fancy hotel, but it is clean and more than adequate. We've been staying here several times each year since about 2004. The staff has always been very courteous. It's only about a couple blocks off 35W and very easy to get to. There are several fast food restaurants nearby and RJ Riches. The motel rooms have refrigerators which is handy for the mountain of food RJ Riches serves. Hwy 10 is a block away. Although the motel is in close proximity to the freeway and Hwy 10, it is set back enough from the road and is not noisy.
If you take Hwy 10 west a few miles you have easy access to Northtown shopping mall, and two strip malls, one has a Target and the other a Marshall's.
We will continue to stay here and have booked a room for this coming weekend.

“an accurate review.... a great place to stay.”

I had read many reviews of this motel both on the trip advisor and at hotels.com I worried about booking it..because my mother is a clean freak, and I was affraid that she would not like it IF it was like some of the reviews that I read! I found the hotel to be clean through out the whole building. My mother is a white glove cleaner and I found nothing that would not pass a white glove test.
The hotel has 2 floors and on the main floor coming in the Desk is at the immediate left. there is a sitting area to the right with a computer for guests use. I did ask a young man IF the computer was fast enough and he said it was fine! The sitting room was modern with nice furniture and newer carpet. I did not detect ANY smell in the carpet. The halls all had newer carpet in a pleasant green pattern.
The Dinning room was pleasant with enough tables to serve a crowd for the complimentary breakfast. I am sure every room recieves complimentary breakfast! (certainly a money saver!) Everything was clean. For Breakfast they served for toast; white bread, whole wheat bread, bagels and english muffins. They had jelly and butter to go with that. They also served 2 kinds of cereal in closed glass containers to keep out germs. They also served Danishes, apples, and oranges, and muffins. They had various kinds of microwave oatmeal. For drinks they had apple juice, orange juice, milk, coffee, decaf. coffee, herbal teas and regular teas. They also of course had sugar and creamer for the coffee or teas. The nice thing they had was the Belguim waffles. It was easy to make yourself with the pre measured batter in plastic cups. The measurement was just righ to make a nice big waffle without the mess. The had both light and regular syrup. I would consider it to be a great breakfast for free!
There is an exercise room also that looked to be fine. I did not use it however.
This hotel is NOT rated for handicap use however IF you got a room on the main floor, that would be handicap accessable. I am pretty sure the room has enough area and space between the bed and the TV, sitting area that a wheel chair would fit. The wheel chair would also go underneath the sink to wash up. (Maybe a little high) The toilet area does not have enough room for a full wheel chair to fit in. It would be possible for you to balance and use the walls to go to the toilet, If you have decent balance. I think a wheelchair would fit to the tub. with good balance and you being able to get in and out of a normal bathtub then It would be possible to use the bathtub /shower combination. It would be so easy for the company at this hotel to make it handicap accesable IF they had grab bars strategically placed in the tub area! (hint, Hint)
My mother and I had a room on the second floor. The second floor has the smoking rooms. The smoking room did smell like smoke, which I would expect it to. The room was pleasant and clean. We rented a double queen room. it had a tv, and a hair dryer. The Tv was a large enough size with HBO and a few other premium channels, and most of the basic cable channels everyone is used to. There was a refridgerator in the room also. It was nice and clean and a good enough size to put food in it besides, beverages. The beds were comfortable and I checked under the linen to look for bed bugs. THERE were NO bedbugs!
The carpeting was newer and the bedding was newer also. All in all the room was pleasant. There was a table where you could eat your complimentary breakfast at. (they had trays to bring your breakfast upstairs). You could adjust the heater / air conditioner however you wanted and it provided plenty of air conditioning on the HOT days we were there. They also had a coffeemaker in the room that would make 4 cups. Easy and clean with coffee locked in filter for no mess. They gave 1 each of decaf., and regular ground. There was a note at the sink that If you needed anything be sure and ask, so I am sure if you needed extra coffee and creamer or sugar they would give it to you! There was not a microwave in our room... but there was one down the hall for community use. There was plenty of lamps to be able to read by. If you want to turn a light on when you go out be sure and check the one by the TV, when you turn it on at the lamp it WILL turn on when you enter the room with a switch by the door. ( you might have to set it this way yourself.)
The bathroom was a split bathroom with the sink on one side of the door and the toilet and tub on the other side. The toilet area was a little cramped, however with family you did not need to shut the door between them, so it ended up ok. The Toilet area was laid with tile and very clean. they provided bar soap, shampoo and conditioner. Plenty of towels, and a bath mat for the tub area.
The maid and All OF the Staff were excellent and very helpful. Check-in and check out was efficient. Check out time is 11:00am. We also had no problem with our reservations! Our room was ready for us when we arrived. There was enough room for us to park so when we looked outside then we could see our car. It is a quiet area so it was easy to sleep! During our stay there were NO parties to keep us awake. We did NOT hear noise from the rooms on either side of us.
The hotel is located in a good area North of Minneapolis, in a low crime rate area. It was easy to find, so when you get off the interstate and see the McDonalds sign you know it is right behind it. Being close to the freeway it is easy to find anything you want to site see. you can ask the staff when you book a room, and they WILL explain to you how to get there. The directions they give makes it SEEM like it would be hard to find but in fact it is not! This hotel is reasonably close to both the downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, it is NORTH CENTRAL. That makes it quite aways from the Mall of Amerca this is not a problem though as it is easy with the freeway system to get on #35W, and from there to go to # I-494 (south)
This is a great value hotel. The prices are amoung the lowest prices I have seen in the Twin Cities area. For a comparable room I normally would pay $15.00- $40.00 more for the same quality of room. The staff was friendly, the other customers were pleasant. I rated this hotel a 5 because of the reasons stated above. Now If you are expecting a five star hotel this is not it. This is a great hotel for the family or traveling visitor. It is a great hotel for familys. It is out of the fray of city life that you don't have to worry a lot about your kids. There are many family friendly resturants in the area: Taco Bells, McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken close. I rated the kids activity a 4 because there is not much to do at the hotel (for example swimming pool) However there ARE many inexpensive things to do in the city with Children that are free! So really it could be a 5 counting all the things to do in the area!
I felt compelled to write this long and with as much detail as I could because the Reviews that I saw were completely FALSE! I wanted to clarify this! Pam

Room Tip: If you smoke and are handicapped during nice weather it would be good to take a room on the main flo...

“Smelly Carpet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

I stayed there in June 2011 and while it was for the most part OK, the carpet looked and smelled like second hand remnants from a Laughlin Nevada casino hotel. Same pattern too. I got knocked against a wall while walking down the hallway to get ice by a rottweiler owned by a good old boy from Kentucky who was staying there. He opened his door to take his dogs, 2 of them, out to do their business and I just happened to be in the way, they were not leashed. No wonder the carpets smelled and they were at about 10% occupancy. Security door locks on the doors to the empty parking lock were missing as well. I'd have to get a heck of a deal to stay there again. I'll be kind and give them an average rating as the staff was helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a pet free, non smoking room.

“No Problems”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

We are traveling from Canada to East Coast of US. We have had nothing but good experiences with Days Inn and others in the Comfort chain. The hotel in Mounds View is no exception. The staff at check in was very courteous and helpful in showing me how to get to Mall of America (about 35 minutes away). There is no pool but everything was clean. Breakfast was standard for the chain but the eating area was cleaned regularly and stuff that was out was quickly replenished.

IF I had to complain about anything, the door to the exercise room was very hard to open.

The Hotel is a bit off the beaten path but very clsoe to I35W and a short drive to I94.

If you just need a place to spend a quiet night or two, you cannot beat the price ($69.00). Also, the rooms are large so three of us did not feel cramped.
