“Groupon Getaway - Don't Do It!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We purchased the Groupon last October and used it for New Years Eve. We were so excited to stay downtown for New Years Eve and thought the price was wonderful. We hadn't even checked in and already we had issues. There was no parking left at the hotel (which was included in the Groupon) and we were told that we needed to park at the Hyatt lot across the street. My husband just had hip surgery so this was not a good start. If we wanted to park in the Hyatt parking lot we would have stayed at the Hyatt. When we got to the room we immediately realized the room had not been cleaned in a very long time. There was thick dust covering everything. It was 78 degrees in the room and a thermostat on the wall didn't work. We kept the window in the room open the entire time to keep it a comfortable temp. There was mold in the bathroom(lack of airflow), the carpet was filthy, bedding was stained, wrappers were left on the floor and the outlets were dangling out of the sockets. We were told when we checked in that they were completely booked, so I figured it would be pointless to call the front desk since there wasn't another room available for us to switch to. The walls were paper thin and hair was found throughout the room. I have stayed in my share of hotels, been to the boundary waters and stayed at camp grounds and this hotel was one of the worst I have stayed at. The bed was broken down so we didn't even have a good night's sleep, although we were entertained by the conversations going on in the room next door. We were extremely disappointed to say the least. They used the word "upscale" in describing themselves which is far from accurate. It was the first time I waited to get home to shower because the bathroom was so gross. The price definitely does not reflect the worth, even at a discounted rate. The breakfast that was included was the 'All American' and was horrible and VERY overpriced ($16 per breakfast) for what you get which was overcooked eggs with toast and juice &/or coffee. It took the wait staff 20 minutes to even notice us even though they weren't busy at the time. I agree it's a great location but then so are the shelters which may have been cleaner to stay at. I hope if you read these reviews you take note that you would be much better off staying elsewhere. I now know why they have a second groupon ad running for 50% off with a limit of 3. Think about it...don't do it...you'll thank me later. If you do decide to go, there may be a support group forming soon with all these Groupon's. Oh, did I mention they had a fatal shooting there lastnight? Yeah, a real "upscale" place to stay!

Dear NYE Guest,

We take all guest comments seriously and we are disappointed that your impression was to such extreme. As with any guest response, Millennium Minneapolis is eager to correct any operational deficiency and a tainted guest impression.

The housekeeping issues you noted are not typical in any hotel property and certainly not tolerated by our standards. While we anticipate comment referencing a dated room decor, for specific room type, our team prides themselves on our houesekeeping and engineering standards. In your case, it appears that we may have failed, although we have no record of any guest issue related to NYE 2012.

Hotel's handle large guest volumes annually, from a diverse society, and domestic situations do arise. This hotel's management team is highly trained in Safety Protocols, CPR, and First Aid. Recent manager and staff members were awarded certificates, from Suffolk County Sheriff's for saving the life of a near drowning guest in the presence of his three sons.

Groupon is one of our elected partners for offering highly discounted accommodations and creating a value for guests. This program remains successful and overall response has been favorable.

I offer my personal apologies for your stay, of 6 weeks ago, and offer my contact information so that we might find a mutually reasonable resolution.

Again, thank you,

Robert Rivers

“New Years Eve Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My husband and I (both MPLS natives) came back to town to party with old friends over new year's eve. We purchased a 'romance' package. The breakfast in bed was delicious, it would have been nice to know we were supposed to order before 2 AM (got home at 4 AM) when we checked in. Either way, kitchen/concierge was very understanding when we called and still brought it up.

Two robes were promised and we only received one very itchy non-terrycloth (polyester) robe.

Overall the place was overpriced thought the location was very nice.

Room Tip: Free parking as available, So take a cab or the bus to keep your spot on busy city nights! Also, if...

Dear NYE Guest,

Thank you for your online review and I am pleased that our team was accommodating of your request, as this is part of our empowerment culture.

I recognize your comment related to the bathrobes and will evaluate quality as we recently changed to a cotton blend in a raised weave pattern. While the appearance of the robe is favorable, if the guest experience is not favorable than we will need to again search the market for an alternative.

We wish you a prosperous 2012,

Sincerely,

Robert Rivers

“Third room worked!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Our first room was awful - despite calling the day before and requesting a club level room. I went to the front desk, explained my call the previous day and let them know the room they gave us was not acceptable. After a little wait, I was given a new room key. The room was nicer, but reeked of smoke! The third room I went to was ok. This is a quaint property - and that is good and bad! The rooms need complete makeovers, not a quick fix. There are holes in the walls, wires that are frayed and pulling out of the wall, wallpaper that is in tough shape, and heating units that are extremely outdated and make it difficult to maintain a steady temperature. The bathroom is on the small side, but it seems suited to the size of the rooms and the age of the hotel. The bathrooms need some serious work!! The pool is in the basement and gives the feel of swimming in a dungeon. However - the location is nice and access to the skyway system, bus and light rail is wonderful. There are many good restaurants located within an easy walk of this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for a different room if the first room you get is not acceptable!

“Okay, until the morning.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Our stay was okay... until we had our complimentary breakfast. The service was awful (took two hours for some scrambled eggs and toast), the servers were strange, and the food was disgusting. I'm a 23 and just out of college - so I've had to live and deal with some disgusting things, but I must say: I got a sense that the environment was probably very dirty. I'll never go back and if it taught me anything, it was to do better research before choosing a hotel. Hence why I decided to write this review. It may help others out.

STAY is fine but don't waste your time on being served there.

“Convenient Downtown Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here while in town for a surprise birthday party for a friend. We took the light rail to the Nicollet Mall stop, and were able to reach the hotel via Skywalks. It took a little while at first since we didn't know the route, but once you have it down, it is less than a 20 minute walk. Check-in was seamless, with a friendly agent and the lobby/bar/lounge area is very nice. We stayed on the 9th floor. The room was perfectly average, and the bathroom looked like it could use a quick once-over renovation, but nothing too bad. There was very good water pressure and hot water. Just a couple of cracked tiles and odds and ends that could be fixed. The room had drab shades and carpets, but had all the necessary amenities, including a flat screen TV. The bar has reasonably priced drinks, and offers free wifi which can be used anywhere in the lobby. You just have to be sure to get the login instructions from the reception. There is a charge for wireless in the rooms, which I didn't have the need to use, the lobby wifi is sufficient. Overall a great stay and we would definitely stay again!
