We purchased the Groupon last October and used it for New Years Eve. We were so excited to stay downtown for New Years Eve and thought the price was wonderful. We hadn't even checked in and already we had issues. There was no parking left at the hotel (which was included in the Groupon) and we were told that we needed to park at the Hyatt lot across the street. My husband just had hip surgery so this was not a good start. If we wanted to park in the Hyatt parking lot we would have stayed at the Hyatt. When we got to the room we immediately realized the room had not been cleaned in a very long time. There was thick dust covering everything. It was 78 degrees in the room and a thermostat on the wall didn't work. We kept the window in the room open the entire time to keep it a comfortable temp. There was mold in the bathroom(lack of airflow), the carpet was filthy, bedding was stained, wrappers were left on the floor and the outlets were dangling out of the sockets. We were told when we checked in that they were completely booked, so I figured it would be pointless to call the front desk since there wasn't another room available for us to switch to. The walls were paper thin and hair was found throughout the room. I have stayed in my share of hotels, been to the boundary waters and stayed at camp grounds and this hotel was one of the worst I have stayed at. The bed was broken down so we didn't even have a good night's sleep, although we were entertained by the conversations going on in the room next door. We were extremely disappointed to say the least. They used the word "upscale" in describing themselves which is far from accurate. It was the first time I waited to get home to shower because the bathroom was so gross. The price definitely does not reflect the worth, even at a discounted rate. The breakfast that was included was the 'All American' and was horrible and VERY overpriced ($16 per breakfast) for what you get which was overcooked eggs with toast and juice &/or coffee. It took the wait staff 20 minutes to even notice us even though they weren't busy at the time. I agree it's a great location but then so are the shelters which may have been cleaner to stay at. I hope if you read these reviews you take note that you would be much better off staying elsewhere. I now know why they have a second groupon ad running for 50% off with a limit of 3. Think about it...don't do it...you'll thank me later. If you do decide to go, there may be a support group forming soon with all these Groupon's. Oh, did I mention they had a fatal shooting there lastnight? Yeah, a real "upscale" place to stay!
