We stayed here for a wedding and the price was decent but it was a pre-arranged group rate. The lobby is nice and the drive way also. Front desk service was good. The rooms, however, left a lot to be desired. The rooms are so old and a bit strange in design. We stayed in a suite with 2 rooms (tv and bedroom). The bedroom was a bit small but the bed was a king size and sleep number (left over from the prior Radisson ownership). The bathroom was very old and small and only had a walk-in shower.
The main complaint from us and several other guests was how hot it was in the rooms (it was Dec. 31 and enough cold outside that it should have been easy to make it cooler). We ended up shutting off both heaters in the rooms and still feeling hot so my husband had to open the window in the tv room to bring a bit of cold to the bedroom that didn't overpower us with the snow and chill. Last, I think the parking charge was outrageous especially for non-football season. I think it was about $12/day and the lot was so small that we had to park in the nearby ramp at least 2 nights. The hotel was prompt and willing to take off those 2 days' charge. Ramp was actually cheaper and not much farther.
Other good things about the place... there's a Starbucks attached to it. A real Starbucks. There's also an Applebee's attached but I think that restaurant has really taken a turn for the worse in general. There are tons of other small restaurants (including some that serve breakfast) all in less than a 5 min walk. There are also a few bars. Nice location right on the campus for U of MN.
When we stayed here there was also a lot of construction outside on the roads for a new extension of the light rail service. I know that's not the hotel's fault but beware. It was a little confusing the first time we pulled up. Once the light rail is hooked up, you could take the rail from the airport directly to the hotel. A big plus.
Overall I'd try to stay at a new Hampton Inn or something similar. I think the price would have been the same.
