“Good bed but otherwise very outdated in the rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We stayed here for a wedding and the price was decent but it was a pre-arranged group rate. The lobby is nice and the drive way also. Front desk service was good. The rooms, however, left a lot to be desired. The rooms are so old and a bit strange in design. We stayed in a suite with 2 rooms (tv and bedroom). The bedroom was a bit small but the bed was a king size and sleep number (left over from the prior Radisson ownership). The bathroom was very old and small and only had a walk-in shower.

The main complaint from us and several other guests was how hot it was in the rooms (it was Dec. 31 and enough cold outside that it should have been easy to make it cooler). We ended up shutting off both heaters in the rooms and still feeling hot so my husband had to open the window in the tv room to bring a bit of cold to the bedroom that didn't overpower us with the snow and chill. Last, I think the parking charge was outrageous especially for non-football season. I think it was about $12/day and the lot was so small that we had to park in the nearby ramp at least 2 nights. The hotel was prompt and willing to take off those 2 days' charge. Ramp was actually cheaper and not much farther.

Other good things about the place... there's a Starbucks attached to it. A real Starbucks. There's also an Applebee's attached but I think that restaurant has really taken a turn for the worse in general. There are tons of other small restaurants (including some that serve breakfast) all in less than a 5 min walk. There are also a few bars. Nice location right on the campus for U of MN.

When we stayed here there was also a lot of construction outside on the roads for a new extension of the light rail service. I know that's not the hotel's fault but beware. It was a little confusing the first time we pulled up. Once the light rail is hooked up, you could take the rail from the airport directly to the hotel. A big plus.

Overall I'd try to stay at a new Hampton Inn or something similar. I think the price would have been the same.

Thank you for your feedback and observations. We will be going through a renovation that does address the comments you noted. We have made good progress in the short term to address some of these outstanding issues. Now that the Light Rail construction has completed most of the groundwork, we are now left with the decking and surround plantings to be completed in the upcoming year. Our streets have been paved and easy access to and from our hotel is now available. The surrounding businesses , in the Stadium Village District, are now even more excited to see the progress made over the last several years. Thanks for staying with us.

“Pleasant Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel for a three day business meeting. The staff is very pleasant, rooms are large and comfortable. The Select Comfort beds are fair. Several coworkers stayed in other rooms and we all had the same problem... unable to regulate the room temperature, it was either too hot or too cool.
The hotel gift shop has a lot of options of snack options and a very friendly clerk. The hotel bar was comfortable but had a very limited beer selection.
Several free newspapers each morning and the very pleasant staff made this a pleasant stay.

Thank you for reponding to Trip Advisor. The gift shop is looking to expand their beer offerings, perhaps picking up 2 to 3 more selections. I am sorry to hear that the temperature in your room was not comfortable. I will have my engineering staff look into your concern. Thanks for the kind comments about our staff. Hope to see you again in the future.

“Very nice service in a clean, but older, facility...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I stayed here for one night in January 2011. It was a quick and inexpensive ride from the Amtrak station, totally only around $10 cab fare. My check-in was swift, and the lobby is very comfortable. It felt a little bit dated, but was kept up nicely.

My room was comfortable, but looked a bit dated, too. It was very clean, though. There seemed to be a lot of space! I fell almost immediately asleep in the comfy bed!

Wireless internet was available free of charge, which was nice. There also seemed to be several very close food options, although I pretty much only slept and left.

I must mention that the bell staff and front desk staff all appear to be cute college students. They were very courteous. There was a business center, and the hotel is connected by walkways and tunnels to the university and medical center, which was very nice.

The only drawback was the distance and cab expense to the airport. I felt like I got robbed! It was more than $40 to get from the hotel to the airport. Maybe once the light rail extension is complete, it would be a better option for the trip. The light rail will go right in front of the hotel!

“Met and Exceeded My Needs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Had to spend a few nights here. I understand this was formerly a Radisson, new management etc.
There was some confusion upon check-in about what costs were covered by my company, but we got those straightened out pretty quickly and easily.

Hotel was busy that weekend due to college football game, and every need that I had was met with enthusiasm.
Directions to local restaurants, airport, etc. made easy. I forgot some toiletries, they shuttled some necessities immediately to my room.
Attached to the hotel is a Starbucks and I think and Applebee's.
Room was fine, bed was really comfortable, and unlike so many hotels these days, the room was made dark when I closed the drapes.

I would happily stay here again.

Might want to call ahead for directions from all the road construction. Applebee's connected to build so you don't have to go outside to eat. Older tv, no continental breakfast.Very nice lobby. Bed was great! Theraputic sleep comfort !

Thank you for your review of our hotel. Our location affords the convenience of the Hospital as well as other U of M facilities. Please do know that our Light Rail Construction has lifted as of December 1, 2011. We are now fully accessible as to all roads leading to the hotel are now open. Also, we are planning an extensive renovation of the hotel starting early 2012. With that, all the goods in the guestrooms will be refreshed and replaced.

Again, thank you for your feedback and hope to see you again in the future.
