“Good option near the University”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I believe it says on their website that the hotel has been "updated"; maybe that refers to putting in flat screen TVs!

bath tub surface was peeling.

rooms "OK", but are looking a bit shabby.

if you need a meal, go outside the hotel...... even for breakfast. the plates were so cold at the buffet that by the time I was back at my table the eggs were stone cold too.

Thanks for your comments. I am sorry to hear your breakfast experience was unsatisfactory but I am glad that you found our location close to the University convenient. I can confirm that we have finished the installation of flat screen TVs in all the guest rooms and are continuing to make subtle updates throughout the hotel. Your review helps us identify areas for improvement so thank you again.

“Do not stay here. Not worth it.”

This hotel is quite a dissapointment. I am not a fan of Holiday Inn in general (I do not like their Breakfast policy) however this hotel is the worst HI I have stayed at.

We checked in late (around 11 PM). Nothing wrong with that.
Internet connection was fast although there was a refresh page that continued to pop up every now ang again. Quite a pain in the back if you ask me.
Internet connection was complimentary.

Breakfast was a nightmare. Not only because the server was useless and quite incopetent. The food choice was poor and the quality was non existant.
The worst thing of all was that I gave the check (properly signed; tip included) to the server, and asked him to post it straight away as I was checking out in 5 minutes.

20 minutes later the check still wasn't posted to my room, even if the reception staff was calling the restaurant asking them to do it. Finally I had to walk to the restaurant and ask them to please post the check. Useless service with lousy interest if you ask me.

3 hours late we came back to the hotel (we had stored our luggage) and decided to stay at the Lobby area working a little bit before we had to leave for the airport. It was not too much of a surprise to find out that it was not possible to get a coffee in the hotel. The bar was closed and the restaurant could not serve us coffee for some strange reason.
The time was: noon.

I do not know, I just did not see any willingness to help or to try to accommodate our needs, and they were simple needs!

I know I am coming back to Minneapolis and I will do my best to stay elsewhere. I will avoid Holiday Inn from now on if I can.

“Great Hotel, Great Staff, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

I've stayed at this hotel several times and it's always been a pleasure. Good food at reasonable prices in the bar/restaurant. Nice room, great city views, good staff that has gone out of their way to help me on several occasions. Conveniant to the Metrodome.

Room Tip: Ask for a good view.

“Not the quality I expected for the price. Location can be a Challenge.”

I've stayed at many Holiday Inns over the years. When I arrived at Holiday Inn Minneapolis Metrodome, I was quite impressed with the exterior of the building and it looked like a very nice hotel. The desk staff were very nice and helpful. However, when I was walking to my room the hallway was line with at least 40 Old (tube) TVs, where they were taking them out and installing flat panels. I was happy to see my room had the newer tv, however lining the hallways with old TVs, hardward, mounting brackets, etc is not what I expected and not repairs a customer should have to see or navigate their way through. If you're coming to the University of Minnesota or to the Metrodome, this location could be ideal. However, if you plan on spending time in the central part of downtown, it's quite far away. When I first entered the room, there was a wall in front of me and I couldn't see the room. There's a very small bathroom with a huge counter/vanity. You have to close the bathroom door to even get into the shower (or climb over the toilet). The water pressure was really low from the beginning, however several times during my shower, the water almost completely stopped flowing and several other times the cold water stopped and only scalding hot water came out. Obviously a problem with their plumbing that someone turning on a sink or flushing a toilet in another room interupts your shower. As someone else posted, if you book your room through a travel website, don't hold out for a nice room with a view. I, like the other poster, ended up with a room right above the parking deck. The room was very basic. It was clean, but it wasn't of the class I expected for the price charged by this hotel. Overall the experience was below average, but the reception staff were very helpful and made the experience here worthwhile. Not worth the price I paid, but it was ok.

Room Tip: buy on the HolidayInn website if you want a room with an actual view of the city instead of the park...

Thank you for your comments. I want to offer my apologies for your experience with us. It appears you faced two atypical situations during your stay. I have discussed your concerns with the appropriate departments and I can assure you that these issues won’t happen again. We have completed the installation of flat screen TVs and the engineering department has investigated the problem with the water pressure. If you are in the area again we would love to have a second chance to impress you with our customer service and “City view” rooms.

“Quite Nice, but Cons Overruled the Pros”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011
2
people found this review helpful

The Pros:
-Location is right near the dome and the city rail, offering access to downtown, mall, and airport.
-The offer free transport to the rail.
-The pool area has an outstanding view of downtown.
Cons:
- Front Desk is not into helping people, just getting through with the customer.
My flight was weather delayed in Chicago by over an hour. I arrived at the local light rail station at 11:50, tired and needing some stress relief. Holiday Inn wouldn't offer that. I read on the website that they offer FREE transport to and from the local light rail stop. I looked all over the website for hours and couldn't find them. When I called at nearly midnight (1am my time) I asked for transport. The front desk guy flatly tells me the shuttle stopped running. No other info, no offers of help, just that I'm out of luck on the shuttle that the website said I could use. Once again, hours on the website could've prevented this trouble. I inquired if they could offer me a taxi and cover the cost, since many hotels that offer shuttles, but are unable to accomodate you by their free shuttle due to unforseen circumstances offer this courtesy. He flatly said "No." I explained that it wasn't my fault that I was late, my flights were delayed. I didn't hear a "Sorry to hear that." or any offer to help a stranded guest stuck in cold downtown at midnight. Instead he simply said, "It's not our fault your flights were delayed." Which I could've sworn the airlines said all delays were not due to weather, but due to interference from Holiday Inn - Metrodome. My mistake. I gave up on any sort of help from their customer service and just ask for a taxi.
- Pool is overly clorinated -
I had to flush my eyes for 5 minutes in the bathroom after one swim across the pool under water. I admit, I did open my eyes for about ten seconds to try and avoid hitting the wall.
- Parking is vague
I wasn't sure if it was their's. It's connected, but no HI sign. I tried in and out priveleges, but ended up paying $3 to stop in my room for 15 minutes before heading to my meetings.
- Rooms weren't the cleanest
Black hair on my bed (mine is brown) and a big booger on the wall. These are small details, but did gross me out to pull back the sheets and find a black hair greeting me. This is not a terrible offense as maids do lean over beds and do have a stray hair fall here and there. However, turning over to flip off the lamp and finding a big nasty booger that some previous guest thought would be funny to plaster on the wall was quite disgusting. It was probably easy for the maid to miss, but it was harder for me to pluck it off the wall and stick in the garbage.
I would caution that the cleanliness issues were hopefully a simple mistake that won't happen to any other guests. However the communication gaffs for parking and transportation coupled with the uncaring customer service make for a stay that is less than pleasant.
Overall, my first impression was that people in Minnesota are generally rude and uncaring and that I would encounter that behavior throughout the city and just to get used to it. But I didn't encounter it any more at the next hotel I stayed at near the airport. Instead they upgraded me to a larger suite for no good reason, showed me where free coffee was, and said hi to me every time I walked through the lobby. I wished that were the first impression of a hotel and city I could've gotten after a very long day of travel and delays.

Room Tip: It appears to be a priceline snub hotel. So, if you want a room with a view of anything but rooftop...

Thank you for your candid comments. We take your concerns seriously and want to follow up. The behavior you report is certainly not the caring standard we strive to convey to our guests. While we hope our employee was having only an “off-night”, we will still use this as a training opportunity to make sure we are doing all we reasonably can to assist our guests. We will also review our website information to see how we might better convey our shuttle hours. Additionally, we are concerned about the pool and room cleanliness issues you reported. I have spoken with the appropriate staff to identify what we may have inadvertently missed and how it can be avoided in the future.
