If you're looking for a frilly Victorian B and B, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a yummy breakfast, spacious accommodations, have an interest in history/architecture, savor tranquility and yearn for gracious hosts, this is the place to be.
What I liked: The home and grounds were well-kept. The labyrinth in the backyard provides a peaceful place to rest and watch deer in the evening. The deer are friendly and come fairly close to you. Off street parking is provided. A free beverage service and free use of a small fridge are located on the front porch. The home is located on a quiet residential street away from the bustle of the downtown area. Marv and Carol are friendly, down to earth and talkative. Breakfast was delicious, with an array of unique and homegrown foods. The bathroom has lots of extra touches such as lotion, locally made soap, etc. The mattress on the bed was extremely comfortable. We were able to control the temperature in our room to our satisfaction. Closet space was adequate. Everything in the room was in working order. We ordered the cheese tray upon arrival. It was delivered promptly and saved us exhausted travelers from having to go out and hunt for a restaurant. Homemade bread will be brought to your room every morning if you're an early riser who can't wait until 8:30 or 9:00 for breakfast. Marv and Carol are extremely familiar with the area and will offer tips and suggestions to help you plan your day.
There were a few things I didn't like, but none of them was major enough to prevent me from staying there again. First, your room does not get cleaned every day. I normally find daily maid service to be an intrusion and agree with the concept of conserving water by not washing towels daily. However, our wastebaskets were overflowing after the third day. We would have liked it if they had been emptied. Second, we stayed in the only main floor room (Joy Suite) which was located right next to the kitchen. It did not offer as much privacy as the other rooms. If you book here, try to get one of the other rooms. The other rooms are larger, have private entrances and have bathtubs. The final thing I didn't like has nothing to do with the owners and is out of their hands. The house is located atop a very, very steep hill. It's only about four blocks to walk to the downtown attractions, but these four blocks are practically vertical. Think San Francisco. If you choose to walk to an evening play, wear a pair of sneakers and change into nicer shoes when you reach your destination (or just drive there). We were able to walk this hill, but those with health issues might struggle with this.
Even though I listed some negatives, these things were really nit-picky. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanted a B and B experience in Lanesboro.
