“Fabulous Retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2011

What a fabulous place to retreat from the world and refocus! Hillcrest Hide-Away is a great place to get away from it all. Carol and Marv do such a good job of taking care of you... from check-in to check-out. All the little details are taken care of and if you have questions about Lanesboro or a place to eat... they can help you make choices. The home was friendly and inviting, not old and stodgy like some B&B's. Our room was quiet and cozy... a great place to hide away from the world's distractions, TV and computer and re-connect with each other, read and play games. Then there were the fantastic cookies, fresh bread in the morning (delivered to your door) and the fantabulous full breakfast! Can't say enough about our stay... would definitely recommend Hillcrest to our friends and family!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Harmony Suite...

“What a great "Port in a Storm"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

Being trapped and not allowed to travel due to a major snowstorm may not sound like the ideal situation, but "safe harbor" in this place was memorable.
The Owners are natural servants; attentive, thoughtful, and caring.
The rooms are unexpectedly large, with ample amenities, and the food is tasty, healthy, and plentiful.
Yes, we have told our friends about this place, and some of them have already visited and concur.
We will be back this Summer!!!

“Couldn't ask for more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2010

If you're looking for a frilly Victorian B and B, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a yummy breakfast, spacious accommodations, have an interest in history/architecture, savor tranquility and yearn for gracious hosts, this is the place to be.

What I liked: The home and grounds were well-kept. The labyrinth in the backyard provides a peaceful place to rest and watch deer in the evening. The deer are friendly and come fairly close to you. Off street parking is provided. A free beverage service and free use of a small fridge are located on the front porch. The home is located on a quiet residential street away from the bustle of the downtown area. Marv and Carol are friendly, down to earth and talkative. Breakfast was delicious, with an array of unique and homegrown foods. The bathroom has lots of extra touches such as lotion, locally made soap, etc. The mattress on the bed was extremely comfortable. We were able to control the temperature in our room to our satisfaction. Closet space was adequate. Everything in the room was in working order. We ordered the cheese tray upon arrival. It was delivered promptly and saved us exhausted travelers from having to go out and hunt for a restaurant. Homemade bread will be brought to your room every morning if you're an early riser who can't wait until 8:30 or 9:00 for breakfast. Marv and Carol are extremely familiar with the area and will offer tips and suggestions to help you plan your day.

There were a few things I didn't like, but none of them was major enough to prevent me from staying there again. First, your room does not get cleaned every day. I normally find daily maid service to be an intrusion and agree with the concept of conserving water by not washing towels daily. However, our wastebaskets were overflowing after the third day. We would have liked it if they had been emptied. Second, we stayed in the only main floor room (Joy Suite) which was located right next to the kitchen. It did not offer as much privacy as the other rooms. If you book here, try to get one of the other rooms. The other rooms are larger, have private entrances and have bathtubs. The final thing I didn't like has nothing to do with the owners and is out of their hands. The house is located atop a very, very steep hill. It's only about four blocks to walk to the downtown attractions, but these four blocks are practically vertical. Think San Francisco. If you choose to walk to an evening play, wear a pair of sneakers and change into nicer shoes when you reach your destination (or just drive there). We were able to walk this hill, but those with health issues might struggle with this.

Even though I listed some negatives, these things were really nit-picky. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanted a B and B experience in Lanesboro.

“Everything I hoped it would be!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2010

Recently, my sisters and I wanted to retreat to a place where we could catch up on each others lives. It was time to enjoy each other, relax and have someone take care of us!! The Hillcrest Hideaway B&B was the haven we were looking for and we will have fond memories as we reflect on our time away from our normal lives.
When we arrived, our hostess greeted us at the door with a friendly welcoming smile. We were given a little tour of the B&B, as she showed us where beverages were available, the breakfast location and also what time breakfast would be served. Homemade cookies were available in our room!
Our room was inviting, it provided a lovely sitting room where we laughed and chatted away the evening hours. A sofa sleeper, an inviting queen bedroom, an attractive, very clean (felt new) bathroom was the perfect combination to allow us to feel at home! We also were able to sit out on a deck adjacent to our room, with a lovely view.
Our sweet hosts, Marv and Carol provided a tasty breakfast meal the next morning. At 7am, fresh bread and beverages were set outside our door, then at 9am we made our way downstairs to the breakfast table laden with a fresh fruit dish, muffins and delightful egg/baked apple dish and sausages. What a delicious combination!
If you want a location, that is private, friendly, and comfortable, you should try the Hillcrest B&B!

“A terrific weekend get-away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

My wife and I spent a very pleasant summer weekend at the Hillcrest Hide-Away Bed and Breakfast in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Like its name implies, this unpretentious four room inn is located at the top of a hill above Lanesboro’s historic downtown on the Root River.

The Hillcrest, with its comfortable, unobtrusive furnishings, is a welcome alternative to the overly-decorated Victorian inns that are so prevalent through the Midwest. Our room came with its own sitting alcove overlooking a lovely country garden.

Our hosts, Marv and Carol Eggert, established an immediate rapport with us and with the other guests who joined us for a terrific breakfast, garnished with eatable flowers from the Eggert’s garden.

One of the real highlights of our visit was the basket of fresh baked bread that arrived outside our door each morning along with a thermos of coffee.

We are looking forward to a return visit to the Hillcrest Hide-Away.
