My husband and I stayed at the Super 8 in Golden Valley, Minneapolis for four nights when we came out to see The Minnesota Twins play at Target Field. This motel is not far driving from Target Field and downtown. We booked it through Travelocity and prepaid so our room averaged $65.86 per night. The evening we arrived I noticed that there was black mascara smudges and some black hairs on one of the pillows and so I pulled back the blankets and noticed "turn wrinkles" in the sheets. I deduced that the bedding had not been changed so I called down to the service desk and Kevin said he would send up another pillow. My husband went down to the service desk about 45 minutes later and told Kevin that the bed hadn't been changed and Kevin told him that housekeeping wouldn't be back until the morning.....my husband said if Kevin could get the bedding, we didn't mind changing it ourselves....lol.... So he got it and we did. This sort of thing can happen at any hotel......The room air conditioner was super loud (it was an LG model) but there was nothing to be done about that and as the room faced the Interstate 394 you couldn't sleep with the window open for traffic noise so the air conditioner was needed. The breakfast was disappointing as it was generic brand Cheerio type cereal, cheapo sweet danish, the orange and apple juices tasted mostly like water, but they had two waffle irons and the mix came out of a cooled dispenser so you could have that. There was yogurt in the fridge. Without any protein or fruit (eggs, sausage, apples, oranges or bananas) we just ate at restaurants instead. We didn't really expect a great free breakfast when our room was such a deal anyway. The room was well appointed with a king bed, television (still tube TV but it was okay picture wise), small fridge to keep our water cold, a microwave if you wanted to heat snacks, etc., free wireless internet, a workout room, no pool and lots of parking in the back. There are vending machines with snacks and popcorn you could pop in the microwave, etc. All in all, the motel is a very good value for $65.86 when most of the others are $130.00 per night and over around that location. We just don't see that it's necessary to pay more for this type of trip. The only bug I ever saw was a little spider so....There is an awesome restaurant right next door to the motel called JJ's Sports Bar & Grill that has great, friendly service, the food menu is varied and the food is great! Great selections like walleye, meatloaf, chili, specials, sandwiches, burgers, salads, the nachos were great, salmon, great appetizers and lots of "happy hours" with half priced items. JJ's serves breakfast only on Saturday and Sunday which is too bad considering the motel's breakfast situation (we had a great breakfast on Sunday)..... the food quality is really good, the prices super reasonable too! We wanted to split a Walleye sandwich, cole slaw and fries as we knew a whole order would be too much (we like to eat on the lighter side), and they split it and served it on individual plates for us which no other restaurant has ever done; that's good service! There are other restaurants close by the motel as well but once we ate the first time at JJ's we saw no reason to go anywhere else! JJ's also has a nice patio with lots of tables and folks of all ages partaking and we enjoyed that very much! Inside is nice too and they have 18 flat screens to watch games, etc. All in all, the motel is good value for your money and we would stay there again if we were back in Minneapolis and we probably will be for another Twins game!
