Camp du Nord is a wonderful YMCA family camp north of Ely on the border of the BWCA. There are beautiful cabins and rustic cabins and tent sites and cabin tent sites for lodging. You can buy the meal plan or cook on your own. You have use of sailboats, canoes, kayaks, a beautiful waterfront etc etc. During the summer months they are well staffed with a children's program (ages 0-teens!), "Nature Notes", and polar bear swims in the morning, crafts and hikes and beach activities for families in the afternoon, bonfires and sing alongs, saunas and skit nights in the evening. My family spent 9 wonderful summers at du Nord and still sing du Nord songs 17 years later. It is truly a piece of heaven and a wonderful time of family bonding. I think you call the St Paul number to register, but much of the registering is finished by the first week of November for the following year. They use a lottery system to fairly dole out the cabins, tent sites and weeks of the summer. Once you go you will always go back.
