“Nice, but with some reservations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Clean, nice staff, reasonable price, very large breakfast area, and four nice waffle machines, fruits, cereals, tea, etc. and plenty of tables to sit at . Large indoor swimming pool and smaller outside heated pool good even in February. The hotel is popular with young people coming for hockey in winter. The hotel is in the canal area and their are lots of attractions within walking distance. Great walking trail along the lake for miles. But the rooms are adequate, but not exciting. It makes me wonder if they had a decorator, of if someone just threw furniture into the room, and hung a couple of pictures. Plus the refrigerator in the room vibrated noisily all night keeping my wife awake. Next time we will
stay at one of the other hotels nearby which seem a little more upscale.

Room Tip: face the lake, ask for a lanai

“Winter visit = Perfect FIT!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Great location, even in winter. Great walking trails and easily located near nice restaurants including Grandma's. Very clean rooms, hallways, dining area, lobby, etc. Hotel was quiet in evening. Nice "themed" decorating to match location (including cute light fixtures in halls that have "lift" bridge theme, which I thought was cute along with pics of ships on lake, etc. Breakfast area was very spacious and where you got the food was in a large space separate from the dining area which was nice (and not usually the case at hotels that include breakfast). Opened at 6:30am (THANK YOU!) and you can view sunrise over lake while eating. Really nice added plus in evening is s'mores and bonfire on back deck. Nice way to end the day. Friendly staff, very accomodating. Rooms have nice amenities (fridge, m-wave and good bath products). Will definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Lake view rooms with balconies are great for sunrises, or nightcaps while looking at lake and city l...

“The best there is IMO after staying in Duluth and almost every other hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I stay at this hotel 3-5 times a year sometimes just for a night when heading back from Minneapolis, and sometimes for 3 nights as a long weekend get away. I always book the suite, which has two rooms a king, a queen and a double pull out sofa...it's nice to have a seperate area...

the staff are the BEST....always friendly and the breakfast that they put out has never been disspointing..unless you don't like the biscuits and gravy that so many Americans enjoy...I am not American so I can't wrap my brain around biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

The nightly smores is a bonus especially if you have kids and being that there are walking paths around the hotel and great shopps to visit right across the street, its the best place to stay IMO

Room Tip: I would assume that the Lake side rooms might be quieter..never staye don that side though

“Come for the view and location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My fiance and I have stayed at the Inn on Lake Superior several times over the last few years and we consistently return when they offer specials on rooms because of the location within canal park and the great views of the lake and lift bridge.

We have yet to use either of the pools as they are generally filled with children and we tend to be out once they've emptied. Try to avoid rooms close to the pools as they tend to smell like the pool, but would be great for families or groups of families.

The morning breakfast is excellent though be prepared to wait a little and for there to be plenty of children.

A consistently good hotel, though in need of updating in terms of hallways and public areas, but it's been our choice since leaving the Suites several years ago.

Thank you very much for your many visits, and for taking the time to share your review and recommendation of our hotel. I'm pleased to let you know that we have begun the process for an extensive remodeling of the entire hotel. The transformation will not happen overnight, as it is just in the design stages, so I hope you will be pleased with the improvements we will be making.
