“Nice hotel, but not exactly lakeside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

If you looked at the map, you could be fooled into thinking the Country Inn had lake views, but the main views are of trains and route 10 zooming by. Still, the rooms are pleasant, well-lit, clean and big enough. I didn't hear the trains at all. Staff were very helpful and the breakfast was pretty good. Best thing is that it's close to the Fireside restaurant, which is a super place to have dinner just down the road. The hotel feels very new and squeaky clean, with a pleasant lobby.

“Train noise!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

This is a very nice property by Carlson. It is located on the outskirts of DL between and Lake and the very busy train tracks. It is clean and a good value. Our only complaint would be the noise from the trains. They accept pets for a modest fee of $20.00 per stay. We would probably stay here again

“This Place Saved My Vacation... Maybe even my marriage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Best value, year in and year out, I have ever found for family visiting. Clean, well-lit, good sized rooms (the extra $20 per night for the suite is well worth it). Free WIfI a big plus, very good free self-serve breakfast for the price (includes you-make-em waffles, one type of egg dish each morning, one breakfast meat per morning, several cereal and bakery options, some juice variety, coffee, tea, self-serve hot chocolate). Decent channel selection on room tv. Staff is terrific -- very friendly and efficient across the board. Large indoor pool with whirlpool, open late. It doesn't have a convenience store (there's one across the driveway at a gas station) or any kind of bar, gameroom or other diversions. But as a place to crash without having to crowd into a family member's house for a week, it is terrific -- and less expensive than several other comparable hotels in the area.

“Loud Trains All Night!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2008

This hotel is right next to a train track that is frequented by trains all throughout the day and night, and they blow their horns every time they come through. I only slept about two hours. I will never stay here again.

  • Disliked — Loud trains all night made it impossible to sleep.

“Perfect for Detroit Lakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

This hotel is the perfect location for Detroit Lakes
The hotel is located on the edge of town so if you are driving in from the Twin Cities it is the first hotel you come across.
It isn't on the lake but the hotel that is on the lake is about twice as expensive- and this hotel is basically next door to the lake.
Thank goodness it is away from the hustle and bussel of the downtown in the summer- but it is only 1 short, straight road to the downtown area from the hotel
Hotel is a great value- the rooms are large, there is a great pool and fitness room with nice up to date equipment- a hard find in detroit lakes.
The staff I met was very poliet and willing to help.
Housekeeping kept my room very tidy.
Just one thing to keep in mind that this hotel doesn't have an elevator so you may want to request being on the first floor if you have trouble with stairs.
