“The Nordic Viking Inn”

As we drove deeper north into the picturesque woodlands of Minnesota past blue lake after deep blue lake, it seemed we were a slowly motoring into a different time. It wasn’t until we arrived at the Nordic Viking Inn in Crosby that we realized we’d traveled 1300 years deep into history. In 2009, before we had even officially begun planning for this trip, we saw this unique hotel on the Travel Channel’s Extreme Mind Blowing Hotels, and once we started planning, it cemented itself as a must-see.

We arrived and had some trouble finding a parking space for the RV+ (that’s what we call the RV + Dolly + Car). There’s no formal parking for the Inn, so we had to squeeze into a spot across the street. Once we parked, we grabbed our bags, walked up the stoop to meet the inn keeper Steinnar – dressed in full Viking cloak – and his faithful companion, Thor...

“Overrated!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011 via mobile

Great location and decor. Steiner was self absorbed and has pretty perverted and sophomoric humor. He joked about having cameras in our room and watching my wife shower. He also charged us $40 for a homemade game he made up which was basically a bed sheet with marker drawings. Food was average and salty. Great dog though. I would not recommend this to anyone and would definitely not go again. Travel Channel should have done more homework!

“AMAZING INN!!”

My husband and I stayed here for our second anniversary and were hoping to do the interative theater and mystery game. Since there were no other guests for the first two nights we didn't get to do those activities, but hung out with the owner (Steinarr) instead. He is such a great guy! He does have a strong personality and is very passionate about his beliefs, but unless you are easily offended and/or argumentative with him, you'll get along fine. (We even had a conversation about religion and were on opposite sides, but he is very respectful of you as long as you are respectful of him). He spent hours cooking for just us two and would hang around and talk with us, even though he has many different projects going on at once. His dog, a beautiful great dane, was so well trained and friendly! We actually decided to get our own dog after spending time with Thor! The Inn is so elaborately decorated and you really feel as if you've stepped back in time. The food is DELICIOUS and the portions are huge! He makes everything from scratch and some of it is from his garden! We are DEFINITELY going back, hopefully with a group so we can partake in some of the activities!! After our stay, Steinarr definitely felt more like our family than just the host of an inn! :)

“What an awesome place to stay!”

My wife and I stayed here and really enjoyed everything about this place. This is not your typical B&B, so be prepared for a new experience. If you want a quiet, private night or weekend away by yourselves, then this is not the place for you. If you want to meet other people, eat, drink, be merry, and travel back in time, then you will totally enjoy staying here. We ate plenty of good food for dinner and breakfast. What was really fun was the interactive medieval game that was played by all quests. After a few drinks and time to socialize, we were all handed medieval costumes to wear for the game. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the stay.

“Night Of A Lifetime”

Our viking host was gracious, from treatment in the bar to transporting our luggage for us. The hot tub was enough to leave us speachless. Later, the rest of the guests pitched in to make the night memorable. It was an experience beyond belief...one that everyone should try. Highly recommend the Viking breakfast.

Room Tip: The jarles den was over the top.
