“Great value, clean, restful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2010

Nowadays, with all the horror stories one reads for having stayed at a hotel costing under $50, I have to admit I was worried about cleanliness and bugs. But luckily that's not my story. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, the bathroom was clean, clean sheets, the tv worked, no sign of bugs and no itches the next day. Great value for under 50 bucks.

“What a nightmare!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

I had booked 2 rooms because I am an Days inn employee in davenport, Iowa. So I got a good price. My aunt was getting married so we needed the rooms for twos nights, We had problems when we were on our way up so we were hopeing for an easy no hassle check in and a nice place top sleep. We didn't get that. On arrival my mom and I go in the check in, I have my voucher and everything. Then the guy at the check in desk says he hasn't been working here long and told us that we would need to vouchers, one for each room.

Ok, So after some arguing with the guy I call my manger in davenport and he talks to the guy. The guy at the desk finally agrees after almost an hour to use the same vouvher for both rooms until tommorrow when my manager can fax it.

On the way up, BEWARE OF THE ELEVATOR! The door will shut on you! My mom got the door shut on her and we had a 2 year old with us. NOT SAFE AT ALL! The rooms were suppose to be 2 queens. We got 2 doubles. You ever try to fit two people on a double? Not easy or comfortable. The room had no fridge or microwave to cook anything and we were on a tight budget so another inconvience.

The tv in my room was popping and sparking and the a/c unit in my cousins room didn't work and there was no breeze so it was hot in there.

The breakfast was your usual: waffle maker, cereal, bagels, toast, juice, milk.
So that was fine, nothing wrong there.

Well, I go to the front desk again 30 minutes before we have to leave for the wedding and the guy doesn't know what hes doing either or how to help. He just shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know how to help you."
Their fax didn't work so we had to send the voucher via email. They got it finally! So that was settled. But the whole time the manager was rude!
She kept saying that they only give 15% off employee rooms and only allow one room. Which is not true at any other Days inn.

This isn't even over with yet. The housekeepers stole! Luckily my room we left the do not disturb sign up so they didn't come in. But my cousins room they didn't and the housekeepers stole from his fiance. 1 pair of jeans and a couple for shirts.

Other then that the wedding was lovely and everything else went fine.

If I worked for this hotel I would be ashamed.

“Big Mistake”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2009

Under new management (1 yr). Upon arrival, 1st room lacked working light fixtures and functional air conditioner. Next room had newer air conditioner which did work although the bathroom had very dim lighting with dust encrusted exhaust fan which didn't work. My wife informed me that her queen bed was questionably not clean. I discovered that my bed was possibly not changed also. We voiced our concerns to the manager in the morning expressing a desire to find another room which was in more clean condition. The next room offered had a strong order from cleaning agents plus the air conditioner was ineffective after one hour of operation. We again asked for another room after realizing that our reservation was non-refundable, but felt desperate at this point. We settled for the room where we had slept on dirty linen, but the staff had fixed the bathroom fan and light, plus clean linen for the beds. Also had brought in a refrigerator.
Spent the next four nights tolerating our stay but found the dinning area dirty and lacking simple amenities for the free breakfast that was offered. The manager bordered on being rude when our initial concerns were being voiced, and treated the maid service just as harshly when our accommodations needed to be changed.
Definitely was fooled by the internet web site as the interior/exterior of the building showed considerable wear and tear condition.

“Needs Some Work”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

I originally wrote this review on another website after staying at this hotel in 2008. At that time I was not a member of TripAdvisor so I thought I would take the time to transfer it over. Let me simply say this...I wish I would have been a TripAdvisor member prior to booking this place. It would have saved me some grief!

I had to travel to Minneapolis for a graduation and needed a hotel that had a suite (2 rooms) where I could have my kids sleep in a separate room. After looking around a lot, I found the Days Inn (formerly called Baymont Inn) had two of these rooms available and the price was the same as what other hotels charged for a standard room.

The hotel is located right off I-94 so it has very quick access to the interstate and from the outside it looks like a decent place. Inside the hotel was a different story. It's obvoius that the ownership of this hotel has no desire to invest money into cleaning this place up. The room we stayed in was without a doubt the dirtiest hotel room I have every stayed in. The carpet was rippled all over and was stained with a red color. I kept my shoes or socks on the entire time I was in the room and made sure my kids didn't sit on the floor. Next I went to the pull out sofa in the 2nd room to get that ready for my kids. Upon removing the cushions I found numerous old wrappers of various items.

The bathrooms were run down and it appeared that that the hotel recently tried to do some painting in them, but you can't simply cover up a filthy room with a fresh coat of paint and call it good. The ceiling fan in the main bathroom was very loud to the point that you didn't even want to turn on the light in the bathroom because the noise was so annoying.

My brother and his family booked the other suite and they also had problems. They had no clean sheets and their air conditioning unit did not work, that is until my brother tinkered with the wiring.

I booked this hotel unaware it was located in a somewhat rundown section of town. My sister lives near Minneapolis and when I told her where I was staying she was somewhat alarmed. I was simply looking at the price of the room and nothing else. I have learned my lesson.

Bottom line is if you're looking for basically a bed to sleep on for a cheap price, then this is it. However, I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone I know.

“Under New Ownership and Management”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2009

This is a two star hotel but it was one of the best Days Inn I have ever stayed in. I stayed here for 3 nights – 2 I paid for and one I used my Wyndam Rewards. Due to my disability I requested a ground floor room but the hotel has an elevator and the desk clerk was insistent that I would have a better stay in one of the recently renovated 3 floor rooms so I allowed her to place me there instead. It was a very nice room and it had been recently repainted and had new carpets installed but I wasn’t told where the ice was located. After I had settled into the room and could see no in room literature on the hotel I called and found out that ice was located on floors 1 and 2 and this required additional trips to get it. Had I known, I would have made a request to be on one of the other two floors as I had a very small cooler that needed a little ice to keep it cool. The deep underlay on the hall carpets made it a challenge to take my walker to get ice.
Since there was no literature in the rooms there was no information on how to operate the remote. I am a TV junkie and that was the first remote ever to have me stumped and apparently it was a common problem so having some information would have been great. There was also nothing in the room on how to access the free wi-fi or restaurants in the neighbourhood and info on both of these would have been great.

The bed was very comfortable and the room very quiet. No doubt the deep underlay on the carpet went a long way to deadening the sound within the hotel. The water pressure in the shower was good although the age of the fixtures were beginning to show as drainage in both the shower and the sink was very slow. They were however exceptionally clean! There were no issues with housekeeping; the room was clean and well stocked with the usual supplies.

The hotel served breakfast each morning and it had the usual choices of cereal, toast, waffles, donuts, juice coffee and tea etc. The only disappointment was no fresh fruit. The staff were eager to refill supplies if they were needed and the breakfast room must have been one of the cleanest I have been to in a while.

The minor irritants became less of an issue when I was checking out as I found out the new owners had only been there for 3 weeks. This explained why the third floor was offered and why there was no information in the room. I would expect that these things would change once they have had a chance to get to them. The TV system had only just been installed so no doubt they just never had a chance to get information printed for the rooms. Everyone was eager to help and was always friendly and approachable no matter what time of day it was. I don’t doubt that if I had said getting ice was a challenge I am sure someone would have got it for me.

It seems that this hotel has had some challenges in the past with the frequent changes of ownership. I hope that this change is successful. The hotel is in a nice neighbourhood with other hotels nearby and a Denny’s next door so hopefully with all the changes it will give the other hotels a bit of serious competition.
