I stayed at the Park Plaza over Memorial Day weekend 2012 for three nights, and had a very satisfactory stay. I booked there mainly because I got a good rate via hotwire, and was looking for a place in a convenient location (for someone with a car). The free parking and wifi helped with the decision. I had not stayed there before (almost) so was a bit concerned with a few negative reviews, However, I found it to be very satisfatory in every way.
As I drove up, it looked familiar, and then I recalled I had stayed there before, about 10 or 15 years ago when it was new and operated as the Wyndham. It was very nice then, and although a bit older now, the upkeep is still very good. I will write my comments in three sections below:
Pros: Convenient location off I-494 and close to I-35W for someone with a car, about 6 miles from the Mall of America, about 12 miles from downtown Minneapolis, half that to the airport, 8 or 9 miles to Uptown. Room size adequate, tastefully decorated, king bed very comfortable, on the soft side but not sagging, cleanliness very good, front desk staff helpful and quick, free parking, free and good quality wifi in rooms (I was on the 5th floor), TV with about 40 channels, adequate hot water and pressure, free ice machine in hallway, adequate towels, pillows, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, coffe machine. Very good maid service. Shuttle to airport and Mall of America. Indoor pool. Restaurant in lobby. Non-smoking property.
Cons: Room could use a small coffee table so someone sitting at the sofa can have a small table in front, no safe in room, nothing much within walking distance (except a Perkins and a gas station about half a mile away), so not suited for anyone without a car. The bathtub was very slippery when wet and may be hazardous for some,
General observations: The room also did not have a fridge or microwave (not expected in a typical hotel but may be useful to know for some). I did not use these, but they do have room service and (presumably free?) shutlle to the airport and Mall of America. Overall the location is great if you have a car, or are just staying overnight and using the shuttle to the airport. I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 mainly because it is not a luxury property, but the value is definitely 5 stars. I have stayed in Minneapolis hotels numerous times, and expect an above average standard there, and the Park Plaza lives up to that. There is a Whole Foods within a mile or so just north on France Ave, and numerous restaurants and shops within a 10 to 15 min drive. If you are not expecting luxury or a resort (and have a car) you should be be quite happy there.
The even numbered rooms face south (towards I-494) but it is set back a bit so you never hear any no...

Thank you so much for your gracious comments, we appreciate the positive feedback and will work hard at making improvements based on your suggestions as we are able to. I am so pleased to see that the staff was able to make a favorable impression and that the room met your expectations.
I will follow up with our housekeeping staff to ensure that all of the rooms have rubber bath mats for our tubs, they should be in place as an additional safety feature. While our rooms do not have safes, we do provide safety deposit boxes at the front desk at no fee. You are correct that our shuttle is complimentary to the Mall of America with daily schedules and we do offer, upon availability, localized runs to restaurants and shopping. These runs need to be coordinated through the front desk and while we do our best to accomodate these special runs, we can't guarantee them since the primary purpose of the shuttle is airport transfers.
Thank you again for your comments we appreciate them and need to see how we are perceived and what we can do to make improvements. If I can ever be of personal service, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. We all look forward to being of service to you for future visits.
Best regards, Pete Boese, General Manager
