We just finished a 5 night stay at the Embassy suites. We paid $150/night which is higher than some of the other "suite" hotels in the area, but you do get quite a bit extra for your money. Here are some reasons you are getting value for that extra $30-$40
1. Hot cooked to order breakfast - consistently good quality - eggs cooked fresh any way you like, bacon, pancakes, sausages, hash browns, fresh fruit, hot oatmeal plus all the other standards you find at the other free breakfasts. This is worth the $30 alone, especially if you have 4 people in the room and if you enjoy a nice breakfast in the morning - we fill up with a good breakfast and then we need very little for lunch - which also saves you money!
2. Happy hour from 5:30-7:30 every night - full selection of drinks not just beer and wine - plus basic snacks (chips/salsa/veggies and dip) - if you like to have a drink before dinner this will also save you at least $20
3. The pool area is nicer than most other suite hotels. It is landscaped with many plants and trees which makes it a pleasant place to sit and watch your kids play in the pool.
4. The interior courtyard is very pleasant to sit for breakfast - especially in the winter when you can't sit outside you really feel like you are outside - all the plants, flowers and trees are real!
5. Restaurant on site - not many of the other basic "suite" hotels will offer this - if you check out trip advisor restaurants, you will notice that the restaurant in this hotel - Chez Daniel is actually ranked #3 on trip advisor for Bloomington! We ate in the restaurant twice (on the lounge side) - the food was reasonably priced and very good quality. This is a nice feature to have if you are really tired after shopping and just don't feel like going out to a restaurant again - they even have room service and prices are very reasonable.
6. The size of the suite - quite spacious - we have stayed in some "suite" hotels that are quite cramped and do not actually have the bedroom separated by a full wall - this is definitely two separate rooms - both are spacious and there is an extra sink and counter space in the bedroom - which can really come in handy with 4 people in the room.Note that it is rather noisy in the living area for sleeping because of all the noise from the courtyard in the morning during breakfast - this may be an issue for you if you need someone to sleep on the pull out sofa in the living area. Homewood suites and Residence Inn are a comparable size, but are also in the same price range. Springhill suites by Marriott is much smaller.
7. Starbuck's coffee shop on site that also sells fresh ice cream cones and other grocery items.
Some minor Negatives:
a) You must pay $5.50 per day per computer for the internet - there is a business center that you can access the internet for free.
b) Front desk staff were not the "sharpest knives in the drawer" - but were generally pleasant and attentive.
c) Only double beds not queens - I would expect queen beds in a higher price point hotel.
Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor - the elevators are VERY slow. Keep in mind that the second floor is partially...
