“Spend the extra money for a better hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Pros: Decent Size Rooms, Price
Cons: Very little parking, old mattresses and TV's simply thrown outside, very small swimming pool, old carpet, super-small bathrooms, bathroom doorknob needed replacing, outlets away from the wall, unresponsive front desk, etc, etc, etc.

Calling this hotel "run-down" is an understatement. From what I can tell, they are trying to slowly remodel the place on the fly as opposed to shutting the place down for a couple months and doing it right. I absolutely wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Don't let the price fool you. It isn't worth the savings.

“Nothing Special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Definitely get what you pay for. But it does have a computer and printer with free internet which was a plus. A TV and good shampoo too! Other than that, you get a bed to sleep in and a roof to sleep under. Close to Mall of America (15 min walk) and tram to downtown Minneapolis and MSP airport.
And as for 'fitness centre', there's a small pool. No real negatives about it though.

“Yikes it is Cheap But you Get What you Pay for...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

My wife and I stayed here some time ago when we were attending a Karate tournament. If you are looking for something very cheap and have no expectations or you do not want amenities, you will like this... This property is just extremely aged and needs some updating and remodeling.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here, ask for something that does not smell like an ashtray. I really would lik...

“Avoid at all costs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

Made reservations well in advance of our stay as we had stayed there with no real problems twice before.

On October 29th, 2011 we arrived at the hotel for a 3-day stay. At the registration desk an employee stated that we must pay the whole 3 days in advance, and I explained that we always paid them when we checked out. The employee insisted that we pay in advance and I asked for the manager. Neal the manager came to the desk and said that it was okay for us to pay when we checked out.

Later in the day when we returned to our room, the door pass would not work, so I went to the desk and a new employee said we needed to pay in full before we could re-enter our room. Again I asked for the manager and Neal the manger, once again, informed the check-in staff that we could pay when we checked out.

The next morning, upon rising, I found a German Cockroach crawling on our bed, and I captured it, with its' full reproductive sack intacted ( I am a former exterminating company owner) and took it to the front desk and informed them that this was totally unacceptable. The new desk person said he would call their exterminator right away and have the room sprayed.

On returning to our room later in the day, we found that the door pass would not work again, so I returned to the front desk and complained and was told the card probably just malfunctioned.

I also asked the person working the desk if the room had been sprayed, for roaches, and he said yes. I then asked him what the exterminator had used and if the room had been aired out and was safe to enter. He informed me that he could not answer that and that the manager was asleep and he would not wake him (middle of the day), so I personally aired the room for 30 minutes before entering.

When we checked out on November 1, 2011 we used our American Express card to pay the Bill of $195.42.

On November 5th, 2011, while checking our American Express account we found that they had charged our account a second time for $195.42, and after several phone calls to The travel Lodge, and speaking with Neal the manager, we were finally informed on 11-11-2011 that our $195.42 credit would appear on our American Express card at midnight 11-11-2011. Well, needless to say, it is now 9:14am on 11-12-11 and still no refund.

On calling the travelodge (Now called Northwood Inn and Suites) I was informed that the person on the desk did not know anything about it and the manager would not be in till 3pm, and so the saga continues. Needless to say, we will never stay there again!!!

Room Tip: Avoid this place!!!!
