This was our fifth stay at Ruttgers Birchmont, and once again we found it to be a peaceful and relaxing vacation. We have a large family, and Ruttgers is perfect for a family summer vacation because everyone can choose the lodging that suits them best, whether it's a room in the lodge or a mult-bedroom cabin. The restaurant on site has great food for lunch and dinner, and a buffet breakfast is included with many room plans. The outdoor dining patio is lovely. The swimming beach--the part I like best-- is ideal, sandy, with both shallow and deep areas. An indoor pool is available for rainy days. Lake Bemidji is great for fishing and water sports too, and Ruttgers has marina rentals. We are making plans already for next year!

My 8 year old son and I spent a long weekend at Ruttgers. We had a parkside lodge room. It was out-dated, but plenty of space. The bathroom is small-shower only. The best part of the resort is the Garden Grill restaurant. Walleye every night, and service with a smile! Generous free continental breakfast every morning. Includes fresh fruit, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, waffles, etc. There were many large family groups, but it didn't disrupt the other diners. The beach and indoor pool were the main attraction for my son. If you love the North Woods, you won't mind the mosquitoes and spider webs.

Ruttger's has a beautiful location and very friendly and helpful staff. We rented the one bedroom cabin for the weekend and the pontoon boat for a day. They made sure all of our needs were met. The indoor fitness center and pool is world class. The beach is great for kids of all ages. We had a fire pit directly in front of our cabin that we enjoyed both nights and a fireplace in the cabin. The only drawback that keeps this from being rated "Excellent" was there were some minor maintenance issues with the cabin (ceiling fan broken and front porch had loose boards-trip hazard). We didn't let those minor issues spoil our wonderful, romantic weekend getaway. Highly recommend.

We have been coming to Ruttger's for 8 years straight. We started off in the main lodge and as our family grew, we now stay in a lakefront cabin. The location is wonderful! The lunch menu is good and is improving every year. It has much more variety than the standard club sandwich! The breakfast buffet is a bonus. I have read other reviews that complain about the type of food served - they should eat in their cabin or go into town. Complaining about free breakfast?!? There is a Kids Club that has great activities for those age 4 and up. Plenty of fire pits for bonfires! The rooms are dated, but the price we pay is not outrageous, either. Charcoal grills are available, free of charge. The beach area has plenty of lounge chairs.
