We visit the GM Tech Center frequently and prefer to stay here.

Pros:
- Hotel is clean and well maintained.
- Convenient location to GM Tech Center
- Nice Breakfast.
- 2 trips ago, there was a power outage at 2AM that affected several blocks in this area. By 4AM the battery emergency lights in the hallways were dead. The hotel staff went well beyond what I expected. They bought lots of flashlights and placed them on the floor in the hallways. We ate breakfast in the dark with only Sterno pots for light, but still we had nearly a full selection of hot and cold items including steaming hot ham slices and coffee. The outage was clearly outside the scope of control for the hotel, but they responded way better than expected. I don't know where they were getting the food, but while eating breakfast, on of the staff showed up with 4 more carafes of hot coffee.

Cons:
- I am strongly anti-Mariott because of their hypocritical firearms policy. Here is a link to several incidents that happened a couple of years ago where Mariott is standing on both side of the personal-protection fence. In one case, the restrict your ability to protect yourself with a firearm, and on the other hand when an unarmed woman is raped, they blame her for not being aware of her surroundings and accept no responsibility for protecting her.

For the record, Michigan has the same felony law at North Carolina, and this particular property does not display such a sign.

This particular TownPlace Suites by Marriott is a real value. The facility is clean. The suites are comfortable, as is the bedding. The indoor pool and nicely equipped fitness center are added bonuses.

This Marriott is somewhat nicer than other Marriotts in the area.

I would like to say that the hotel had quite a few occupants on the weekend who were loud and no one seemed to do anything. I had a lady outside of my room screaming on a cell phone for 15 minutes before I walked to the door and she quite. People above us were running all over and even though I asked the desk attendant to do something it didnt seem to stop. But the worst was.....

I was in town for a court hearing on my last day of my 2 day trip. This hotel is a non smoking hotel and I asked where designated smoking was immediately after checking in and was directed to the corner outside the front door. I have no problem smoking outside I do it at home as I do not smoke in doors there. But a week after my stay I found I had been charged more than expected for my stay.

When I called and spoke to a manager she advised I had smoked in the room. I am offended that I could be accused without even a notice or a receipt. She said they had proof and emailed me a picture of 2 newport cigarette butts in a plastic cup. When I responded to the manager I advised her to check security tapes to see if I smoked outside at night or during the day which I did and that the picture of the "evidence" was nice but unfortunately not my brand of cigarettes nor did I have plastic cups in the room. I havent smoked menthol cigarettes for years. Not to mention I have never smoked Newports. I had my daughter with me who hates cigarette smoke so she was happy with a non smoking room yet the Manager writes me ...I myself walked the room, saw the ashes on the carpet and was immediately discomforted by the strong smoke odor.

If there had been smoke odor I would think one would have smelled it in the hall as I have stayed in smoking hotels and you can walk down a hall and smell the smoke from the rooms.

This trip was booked using miles and hotel points to save money due to court. Why would I smoke knowing there could be a charge to my credit card. I am disappointed that I can be accused (without being told) and just be treated like a criminal at this point is how I feel.

We have stayed at this hotel twice and if you need to visit the area I think it is one of the best around. The rooms are modern and spacious plus the kitchen is very clean. The family that runs the hotel are always very friendly. My only issue was this last stay the breakfast was not as good as the last stay, it was rather sparse. I will stay here again if in the area.
