“Good stay, but don't expect amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I stayed at this Courtyard for the Black Friday shopping weekend. I got this through PL, so the price is not a complaint of mine.

Check-in was friendly and quick. Simple enough and I was able to request something not on the ground floor.

The hotel only has two floors, but the elevator was not conveniently located. This wasn't a major problem for me. Instead of using the hotel luggage cart, I just walked my stuff to and from the car in a few trips.

I did not enjoy the bed. I like a firm mattress and the bed had a memory foam feel to it. It was not the worst I had, but it is not the firm mattress that I am used to at home (or even at the Hilton and Sheraton).

The rooms are clean and the bathroom is as expected. Nothing to write home about but at the same time, I did not have to call engineering.

I found the WiFi a little flaky. My laptop was able to pick it up and hang on, but my cell phone has a weaker WiFi antennae and it was not able to hold the WiFi signal from my room, or in the hall.

But overall, this was a shopping trip and the hotel was just so we would have a bed for the night. For that purpose, it served its purpose.

Room Tip: Recommend asking for a room close to the elevator if you are on the second floor.

I would like to thank you for taking time to provide us with feedback on your stay. The Troy Courtyard recently completed a complete upgrade to our internet hardware and software. I am confident that the next time you visit you will have no problem connecting multiple devices in your guest room. Also, in the fall of 2012 we will be undergoing a complete lobby and guest room renovation. This will include replacing all of the mattresses. If you should return to the hotel and find our mattress too soft, please request that a bed board be provided. This should solve the problem! I look forward to hosting you for your next shopping excursion. Wendy Fresorger, General Manager

“great hotel for Black Friday Shopping!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

If you are looking for a reasonable hotel close to all the shopping areas, this is a great place to stay. For $80 a night we are camped out here and are having a great time being able to go back and forth to all the shopping areas.

It is clean, smell free, bed bug free and roomy enough for a non-suite facility.

The only problem was it did not have a fridge to use and the elevator is far from some of the rooms...(like ours).

Overall it met our needs and we are happy to be here.

We will be back next year!!

“Troy Marriot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Nice place to stay! Great beds. except the pullouts are so so, nice and CLEAN pool and hot tub. Did not use the breakfast because it was like additional $10/person which I think is high. Rates were ok as we were on a 'military ship' event. This event went over another day and we went back to the Courtyard and they found us a room!...Thankfully a lady on afternoons names 'Dee' was ever so helpful...she should get a promo :-)
There is a mall around the corner which makes food and shopping close by.
As far as one reviewer wrote on 'noise from the military kids'....we had none. Nice quiet sleepable rooms, courtyard view and such arenice. Clean as well. No concerns and would stay again!

Room Tip: Slept in a Double Queen one night, KING w/pull out thenext night. The beds are GREAT, comfortable...

“Safe, Easy Hotel (and believe me I know!)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Often traveling alone as a single female, I've stayed at this hotel over 100x- yes, over 100x. The hotel is in a decent location (next to Mon Jin Lau- some of the best food in the Detroit Metro area, its open late & its safe to walk there anytime!) but is not close to a coffee shop. The hotel is secure- they have onsite security and after 11pm, Cecelia the front desk receptionist has the front door securely locked and you need to be buzzed in (or use your key at any side entrance!). I've never had any problem with cleanliness, engineering, security or parking.

Room Tip: inside courtyard room for xtra quiet!

“Perfect except thin walls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

We really liked this hotel. We got a great shopping package deal that included breakfast and a $25 gift certificate for Sommerset Collection mall. The hotel is easy to find but not much is nearby except a high-end Chinese restaurant.

We liked the room and the layout. The bed was in an unusual spot facing the balcony, which was nice and overlooked the courtyard. There’s a couch and good-sized TV. Sink outside the bathroom. Good sized closet.

We really liked the room and service but the one drawback was the thinness of the walls. While watching TV in the evening, we could hear kids playing in the pool across the courtyard, even though the balcony door was closed. Then all night we heard the guys in the next room partying. It was like they were in our room. We didn’t bother to complain, they weren’t really excessively loud, the walls were just too thin.

The pool was nice and a good temperature but full of kids and the water seemed a bit murky. 10-11pm is supposed to be adults only. We waited for the kids to clear out but they never did so we waited to swim in the morning.

Breakfast was pretty good. Hot waffles, toast, eggs, bacon, potatoes, juice, yogurt. I wouldn’t have paid full price for it but it was decent. We liked the service. The ladies working were funny but I felt bad for them because some of the customers were being jerks. We left a good tip.

Overall we loved the hotel and would definitely return but would bring earplugs next time.
