Unfortunately we were in town because my Mother in law was not doing well & passed away while we were there. We had a nice roomy suite, but our son was flying in from L.A. for the funeral & instead of getting a separate room for him, Maureen at the front desk suggested the Penthouse Suite above us & gave us a great rate.
She even offered to have the staff move all our stuff to the new room because we were planning a funeral & making picture boards, but we managed by ourselves.
There was a misunderstanding about the room as she had said there were 2 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms or we wouldn't have moved from our old suite, but since we had already packed all our stuff, we thought it might be o.k. & it looked really great.
The penthouse had a vaulted ceiling in the living room & a loft with a queen bed & bath. Downstairs was another bathroom , but only a murphy bed that pulled out from the wall in the dining area plus a living room & kitchen. Very roomy but no privacy for our son who slept downstairs & was bothered by the light from the loft & could hear us whispering.
The next day I told Maureen there weren't 2 bedrooms & she acknowledged she had meant to put us in another suite that had a regular bed downstairs but it still wasn't in a separate bedroom. We didn't have time to change rooms again & decided to stay put in the Penthouse & just get a room for our son. Maureen was very apologetic for the mixup & gave us a very good rate for our son's room considering all the hassle we had been through with changing rooms.
I saw a housekeeper going by our window & ran out to tell her about a leak under the bathroom sink & she was the nicest lady from Romania. She called maintenance right away & asked if I needed anything else. It's refreshing to find housekeepers who are friendly & helpful.
I love the roominess of all their suites but would suggest they do a better job of cleaning. They need an edge tool to clean the edges of the carpet which were very dirty. I always check the baseboards in hotel rooms & my impression of the quality of a hotel is greatly diminished if the carpet is dirty along the baseboards. I did let the front desk know & she said their vacuums don't have edge tools. I don't understand that rationale......so they just don't worry about all the accumulated dirt along the baseboards? Then they should give the housekeepers a stiff paintbrush to clean the edges.
The bathrooms & kitchen were clean & it has a full sized refrigerator, microwave oven, stove, regular sink & counter with barstools. Beds were comfortable & bed linens were nice & warm enough.
TV reception in both suites was lousy & I forgot to tell them about it, so maybe they would have fixed it if they had known. We would stay there again if we go back to that area. I felt it was a good value for the money, but they did give us special rates.
It is a very nice neighborhood, quiet & secluded. The nearby freeway was not a problem for us but our building was not right next to it.
The last nice thing they did for us was to let us leave all our bags in the room until 3pm because we had to pack up furniture in my Mother in laws room & take it to our daughter's house. They were very helpful during this sad time for us.
